Krystal Cade, CMT

Krystal Cade, CMT Inclusive massage therapy for those seeking muscular pain relief, recovery, & relaxation. I am a muscle nerd. My hands just know where to go and what to do.

My name is Krystal (she/they), and I am an Alameda based certified massage therapist who enjoys helping my clients find relief and achieve their therapeutic goals in order to get back to thriving. I offer affirming and body positive massage therapy for people seeking muscular pain relief. I have always found fascination with the human body and have always enjoyed tactile exploration. I spent 8 years growing while working with chiropractic patients. I have often worked with injuries such as repetitive stress injuries, those in post-surgery rehab, and those who’ve been in car accidents. I have experience working with and guiding post-surgery scar tissue adhesions (including transition related top surgery) and I have seen the incredible results that can occur with the right bodywork. My curiosity and passion for bodywork means I am adept at finding problem areas quickly and efficiently. I have an intuitive approach to finding knots in tight muscles and connective tissue. I am admittedly a little heavy-handed at times, but since I know everyone is a little different, I will always adjust to accommodate each client's needs accordingly. I enjoy serving the general public. And…
I aim to be adamantly inclusive of my fellow LGBTQ+ POC communities.

Here’s a quick neck stretch for those pesky scalene muscles (the tight stringy muscles that run down the sides of your neck down into your shoulders and chest) plus the SCM gets attention too (front neck V-shaped muscles).

To start this stretch, lower your neck to one side (ear to shoulder),
Then reach over with same side hand to opposite side ear, and gently pull to stretch.
Raise the opposite arm (the side of the neck being stretched)—higher or lower if it feels good—and rotate that hand forwards and backwards.
Slowly and gently switch sides and repeat.
End with slow and gentle head/neck rolls one direction, then the other.
A bonus optional finish I like to do is some quick shoulder rolls and a shoulder shakeout!

Did you like this stretch? Did it help? Let me know! 😊 💜

Tight shoulders are one of the most common problems I encounter in my practice. And in my experience, tight shoulders often come with and are connected to tight chest muscles.

To open up a tight chest and take strain off the shoulders, here are a couple of pec stretches. These can be used in a doorway, or by a wall corner:

Stretch 1: For pec major, stand in the doorway and place your arm parallel along the outside of the doorframe. Make sure your elbow is at a 90 degree angle to start, and move into a gentle lunge, keeping your torso forward. Stop when you feel a stretch, and take deep breaths. Lunge a little further with each breath for a deeper stretch, but only if your body feels ready for it.

Stretch 2: For pec minor, take your arm and move it up and perpendicular across the inside of the doorframe. Again, take deep breaths and gently lunge forward. You can slightly turn your head in the opposite direction for a deeper stretch if you need it. But if you feel any tingling or numbness in your hand doing this stretch, come out of the lunge a little bit or simply stop.

A word of advice for stretching in general: Don’t hold your breath, and don’t force a deeper stretch until and if your body is ready for it (this is how injuries happen, personal experience here). Breathe into the stretch and be patient. Let your muscles relax when they are ready. Trust me, you’ll notice how much more effective stretching becomes. 💜

Was this stretch helpful for you? Let me know in the comments! 💬

Your well-being is important. I know it’s so easy to forget, especially when caring for others and for the people and the world around us.
In these particularly stressful and trying times, let’s help each other remember to also take care of ourselves however we can. 💜

Your well-being is important.
