I recently went back to Ireland for a couple of weeks after visiting for a week last summer. I spent time in Dublin, Waterford, Cork, and even took an excursion to Shillelagh. Some of the many places I visited included historical sites and museums, including the Irish Emigration Museum, Trinity College Library, and St. Patrick’s Cathedral in Dublin, Waterford’s Viking Triangle, Blarney Castle’s gardens and forest in Cork, and Brownshill Portal Tomb (called a dolmen) in Carlow. I also had the ability to connect with peers and community at the Dublin MindBody Expo, as well as at the Outhouse (the local LGBTQ Center in Dublin) and at LINQ Ireland (a center for q***r women and enbies in Cork). In Waterford I also found a plaque dedicated to Frederick Douglass (who I learned spent a significant time doing a lecturing tour in Ireland), and I also went horseback riding in the countryside near Claragh Mountain. I’m really grateful I was able to take this time to connect with the land, with the local communities, and with the rich, complex, and fascinating history of this beautiful island. If you have ever been to Ireland, tell me about some of your favorite places! And if you plan on going, feel free to reach out to me for recommendations. 😊☘️
