🌟 Help Shape the Conversation at SXSW EDU 2026! 🌟

We’re thrilled at the chance for Leroy and Lindsey to bring an essential session to the stage:

“Leading for Keeps: How a District Stopped the Burnout Spiral.”

This session is a deep dive into how systems can truly sustain educators—not just help them survive the year.

In this workshop, you’ll see how Oakland Unified School District’s Network 4 teamed up with The Teaching Well to tackle principal burnout head-on. With 70% of leaders facing burnout in SY23–24, they flipped the script—embedding wellness into every level of the system—and by SY25–26, retained 88% of principals across 16 schools.

Expect a candid look at human-centered leadership, the cost of disengagement, and compelling data proving that workplace wellbeing isn’t a luxury—it’s a necessity for retention and success.

✅ It’s the LAST WEEK TO VOTE to bring this session to life at SXSW EDU 2026!

🌿 The Teaching Well invites you to join us for another cohort of our Racial Healing Affinity Groups! 🌿

Our affinity groups welcome 15–50 educators into race-alike spaces where we can breathe together, co-regulate, and find strength in one another as we heal and build resilience in the face of racialized triggers.

We know that trauma can take root in the body — and, with the guidance of trauma experts, we trust that it can also be gently released through intentional, consistent somatic healing practices, and supported by mental health therapy when needed.

✨ What You’ll Experience:

🧑‍🏫 Experienced facilitators skilled in trauma-informed practices
🌀 Healing-centered activities and somatic practices curated with care
🗣 Safe, race-alike space to share perspectives and lived experiences
🌍 An expansive network connecting educators across schools, districts, and the nation

This is more than professional development — it’s a community of care and a path toward personal and collective healing. 💛

📅 Space is limited — let’s heal, grow, and lead together.

🌿✨ Enormous gratitude to our Oregon funders! 🙏

Last weekend, our Lead Facilitator Salina Mae led a transformative BIPOC educator wellness retreat in Oregon—bringing educators together in spaces of healing, connection, and racial equity. Her facilitation, deeply rooted in mindfulness-informed and educator-led wellness, equipped participants with valuable tools, insights 💡, and practices for their work in schools and communities.

None of this would have been possible without the generous support of Oregon-based funders like the Oregon Well‑Being Trust, who partner with The Teaching Well to bring mindfulness-informed practices to educational communities across the state. 🌲

We are deeply thankful for their ongoing commitment to uplift BIPOC educators, foster belonging ❤️, and build collective resilience 🌎.

We’re excited about the possibility of Lindsey and Leroy presenting a powerful session: "Leading for Keeps: How A District Stopped the Burnout Spiral"— a critical look at supporting educators with sustainable systems.

In this dynamic session, explore how Oakland Unified School District’s Network 4 and The Teaching Well flipped the script on principal retention across 16 schools by embedding wellness into every layer of the system. Facing a 70% burnout rate in SY23–24, they implemented multi-tiered supports that helped retain 88% of principals by SY25–26. This workshop dives into the power of human-centered leadership, the dangers of disengagement, and the data that proves workplace wellbeing isn’t optional, but a key strategy.

Our Story

The Teaching Well works in partnership with schools to more effectively support, retain, and leverage the brilliance of their educators. Together, we heal adult culture and create thriving school ecosystems by providing tools for healthy dialogue, emotional regulation, and mindful stress resilience.

We believe that transformation of our public school system relies on the millions of adults who lead within it, and that when these adults are healthy, emotionally regulated, and empowered, all children will thrive.

Our programming model consists of a three-year suite of professional development, alongside regular 1:1 mentoring for administrators and teachers focused on well-being and sustainability. In addition, we offer data-driven feedback on teacher retention and strategic consulting on systemic transformation.
