Center for Elders' Independence PACE senior healthcare plan serving San Francisco East Bay residents. We keep seniors living at home

Center for Elders' Independence (CEI) is a non-profit health plan that's been serving the San Francisco Bay Area for over 30 years, providing the Program of All-inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE) to seniors age 55 and older who prefer not to move into a nursing home but whose health problems make it impossible for them to stay at home without the help of caregivers. PACE is a nationally recognized model of long-term care that offers a broad range of medical, social, and day health services in home-based and community-based settings. CEI's mission statement is to provide high quality, affordable, integrated health care services to the elderly, which promote autonomy, quality of life, and the ability of individuals to live in their communities. The Fund for Elders' Independence (FEI) is a foundation supporting the work of the Center for Elders' Independence.

Happy Chinese New Year! Participants at Temescal PACE in Oakland welcomed a vibrant lion dance troupe Toishan Benevolence Association - bringing the excitement and joy of Lunar New Year directly to the seniors who may not be able to attend community parades.

Nearly 26% of CEI participants speak Cantonese or Mandarin as their primary language, and many more come from Asian cultures that celebrate the Lunar New Year, including Filipino and Vietnamese. Creating celebrations that honor heritage is one of the many ways CEI works to ensure everyone feels seen and celebrated.

February is Self-Love Month—a reminder that emotional well-being is essential at every age. For older adults, staying socially connected supports brain health, reduces stress, and improves overall quality of life. At Centers for Elders Independence, we encourage small, meaningful acts of self-love—from staying engaged in activities to reaching out and building community.

At CEI, celebrating Valentine’s Day with the seniors is all about celebrating connection. Today at PACE Temescal, participants celebrated by voting for their King and Queen of Hearts—honoring peers whose friendships have blossomed through the program.

The joyful moment was more than a holiday activity; it was a reflection of what makes the PACE model so powerful. Through daily opportunities for socialization, shared meals, and meaningful engagement, CEI participants continue to build peer relationships that support emotional well-being and whole-person health.

At CEI, independence doesn’t happen in isolation—it grows in community. Moments like these show that when seniors stay connected, hearts stay full.

Game on! CEI Participants Visit the Pacific Pinball Museum.

CEI participants took a field trip to this Alameda landmark for a day of fun and friendly competition. PACE transportation vans made it easy—bringing participants to and from the museum safely and comfortably. Socialization is a vital part of whole-person wellness, and moments like these show that joy and community matter at every age.
