Center for Elders' Independence PACE senior healthcare plan serving San Francisco East Bay residents. We keep seniors living at home

Center for Elders' Independence (CEI) is a non-profit health plan that's been serving the San Francisco Bay Area for over 30 years, providing the Program of All-inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE) to seniors age 55 and older who prefer not to move into a nursing home but whose health problems make it impossible for them to stay at home without the help of caregivers. PACE is a nationally recognized model of long-term care that offers a broad range of medical, social, and day health services in home-based and community-based settings. CEI's mission statement is to provide high quality, affordable, integrated health care services to the elderly, which promote autonomy, quality of life, and the ability of individuals to live in their communities. The Fund for Elders' Independence (FEI) is a foundation supporting the work of the Center for Elders' Independence.

Spring is a great time to focus on your health and well-being.

Warmer weather makes it easier to stay active, while sunlight can support your body and help boost your mood. Spending time outdoors and connecting with others can bring both physical and emotional benefits.

At Centers for Elders’ Independence, we offer programs that help you stay active, engaged, and connected all season long.

Today is World Autism Awareness Day—a time to recognize, understand, and support individuals on the autism spectrum at every stage of life.

As more individuals on the spectrum age into older adulthood, the need for accessible, personalized care continues to grow.

At CEI, our PACE program provides coordinated medical, behavioral, and social support, helping older adults live with dignity, connection, and independence.

Our Center for Elders’ Independence Outreach & Enrollment Team recently spent a meaningful Day of Service at the Corinne Sain Senior & Family Community Center in Richmond, coming together to support older adults in the community. Throughout the day, our team prepared nourishing meals, packed grocery bags filled with fresh food generously provided by the Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano , and connected with seniors to share information about CEI’s Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE).

In total, we were able to serve more than 100 seniors, providing a warm meal, groceries to take home, and a welcoming space for conversation and connection. We wrapped up the day with a lively round of bingo, which brought plenty of smiles and laughter to the room.

At Center for Elders’ Independence, we believe supporting older adults means showing up in the community, building relationships, and helping seniors access the care and resources they need to continue living safely and independently at home.

We are grateful to the Corinne Sain Senior & Family Center and the Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano for partnering with us to make this day possible.

This Care Workers Month, we’re celebrating the people at the heart of CEI. Every day, our caregivers go beyond providing care. They build relationships, offer comfort, and help our participants live with dignity and independence. From medical support to meaningful connections, their compassion makes all the difference.
Thank you to our incredible CEI care team for everything you do.

Heart health starts with knowledge—and access.

In celebration of National Nutrition Month, our PACE Tri-Valley team hosted a Healthy Heart class focused on understanding sodium, reading labels, and making smarter everyday food choices. Led by Dietetic Technician Miranda Cortez, the session was designed to meet participants where they are—with multilingual support in Chinese and Spanish, to ensure everyone can learn, engage, and take charge of their health.

Behind every care plan is a connector, an advocate, and a steady hand.

This National Social Work Month, we’re celebrating the incredible social workers at CEI — who serve as the hub of each participant’s care team, bringing people together, navigating options, and connecting individuals to the services they need.

They don’t just coordinate care—they build trust, empower choice, and make whole-person care possible every day.

Thank you for all that you do.

Spring has sprung at CEI!

In celebration of the Spring Equinox, participants at PACE Tri-Valley welcomed the new season with a hands-on gardening activity—planting spring flowers and beautiful succulents. It was a joyful way to connect with nature, nurture something new, and share in the spirit of renewal together.

Here’s to fresh starts and the simple joy of getting our hands in the soil. Learn more about how we support whole-person care and wellness at elders.org.

As Ramadan came to a close and the three-day celebration of Eid begins, the nutrition team at PACE Concord created space to share culture, spark curiosity, and learn from one another.

As part of National Nutrition Month, participants gathered for a suhoor-inspired cooking demo and breakfast—an opportunity to experience the traditions behind the meal and the meaning it holds. The menu featured nutrient-rich, calorie-dense foods like nuts, dates and yogurt, opening up conversations around both cultural practices and wellness.

At CEI, moments like these are about more than a meal—they’re about connection, understanding, and learning from the diverse communities we serve.

This Women’s History Month, under the theme “Leading the Change: Women Shaping a Sustainable Future,” we’re shining a spotlight on a visionary leader who’s shaping the future of care in our community. We celebrate our President and CEO Maria Zamora, as she marks five milestone years with Center for Elders’ Independence.

Maria embodies the power of women in leadership: courageous, compassionate, and committed to building healthier, stronger, more equitable communities. With decades of experience in health and senior care, and an unwavering dedication to PACE’s all-inclusive mission, Maria has uplifted our work with energy and purpose.

In just five years, Maria has helped CEI reach more people and strengthen our impact, expanding access to care for those who need it most. Her leadership shows that when we support our most vulnerable, we uplift seniors, their families and communities across Alameda and Contra Costa Counties.

We’re profoundly grateful for Maria’s leadership and proud to honor the legacy she’s building — advancing a more sustainable, compassionate future for senior healthcare. 🫶
