is a nationally certified and California-licensed acupuncturist and herbalist. She received her Master’s of Science in Traditional Chinese Medicine from the American College of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Aimee has a special interest in women’s health, pregnancy, birth, and postpartum care. She has trained as a doula and taken pregnancy and birth classes with Raven Lang, OMD. She has also trained extensively with Claudia Citkovitz, L.Ac., in labor and delivery acupuncture. Before discovering Chinese medicine, Aimee studied and worked in psychology. She treasures the connections that Chinese medicine recognizes between our mind/spirit and our overall health and well-being. When she’s not doing acupuncture, Aimee loves hiking, practicing qi gong, watching films, brunching, and enjoying life as much as possible. Services include:

Your East Bay Acupuncture team spent the day together yesterday celebrating 2025 and setting intentions for 2026. We had so much fun getting to connect in person and talk acupuncture, Chinese medicine, fertility and pregnancy together.

We work as a collaborative team here at East Bay Acupuncture and we mostly work on different days to give you more availability which means we don’t always get to see each other in person as much as we would like. We did get to enjoy for some foot reflexology sessions and eat lunch one of our faves in the neighborhood.

We’ve all been licensed acupuncturists for a good long while. Laura Stropes has been an acupuncturist since 1998, Nadia Moredo since 2017 and myself (Aimee Ruiz) since 2012. You get a lot of care and experience when you pick our Oakland acupuncture clinic. And we are so honored to support you!

Do you do acupuncture on yourself?
This is one of the most common questions clients ask mostly because they are just curious! And the answer is YES…AND I personally prefer to get acupuncture done by someone else for a few reasons:
1. Receiving is powerful. Allowing ourselves to receive healing from someone else is a huge part of the healing process!
2. It feels good to be taken care of and receive this medicine.
3. Someone else’s perspective is so needed when we are helpers ourselves. It’s good to get someone else’s take on our patterns and paths.

And yet! Here I am 3 weeks after I fell and broke my nose and I can give myself a little acupuncture love and I’m so grateful for these tools. I’ve also had treatments from another lovely practitioner!
So yes- for acute things like when I get sick or injured or feel a little stressed, I throw a few needles in. How cool to have this wisdom of Chinese medicine to rely on and to offer to you.

Prenatal acupuncture visits can happen propped up with a wedge and some pillows as seen here or lying on your side. Either works great! Many pregnant clients welcome this position because they are spending so much time on their sides when they sleep. We have so many pillows at this office so we can adjust as your pregnancy processes! At 18-20 weeks we use just the wedge and a pillow for your head and knees and then we add more pillows so you are more upright and comfy! A labor preparation client recently said, “I feel like a queen!” We are here for the Goldilocks pillow situation that is pregnancy as it can change weekly.

Our acupuncturists have done extensive postgraduate work and study with the top prenatal acupuncturists on our field. We are so honored to get to support our patients during this time in their lives. I think it’s just the very best!
