Let’s talk N O U R I S H M E N T. 🌱

It's been a little over five years since I began learning more about the connection between the gut + the brain. A dear friend of mine () introduced me to the work of -- and my life has been forever changed. •

I've not spoken much of my journey toward mental wellness here in this space, but quite the journey it's been. What I learned was that the foods I was consuming were directly correlated to the struggles I was facing. For me, food truly is medicine. •

Hi!
Noticed a few new friends around here, so allow me to re-introduced myself.
My name is Jackie.
⋒ I'm a Generator with a Sacral Authority.
⋒ A gemini/cancer cusp (of magic).
⋒ Enneagram type 2, but also 4 or 9 or another number because my results never come out the same.
⋒ I've never been to Disney World -- or Land -- or any other variation of the sort.
⋒ At any given time, I'm like 11 to 123 pages into at least 3 books, with about a 50% chance of finishing them.

Just went live into our FB group sharing a few of my favorite B E A C H DAY E S S E N T I A L S •

and wanted to share a some here as well.

MUST HAVES: •

⋒ staying cool: mint spritzer, peppermint beadlets, diffusing fan, balance deodorant
⋒ bugs: terrashield (or citronella or lemon eucalyptus!)
⋒ hydration: lemon oil in water, tropical lip balm from our spa line
⋒ clean hands: OnGuard sanitizing mist
⋒ natural highlights: lemon oil rubbed into my hair
⋒ aftersun: beautiful blend hydrating body mist (or whip up a simple DIY), deep blue rub for all the beach activities! •

+ a reminder to avoid topical use of citrus oils for at least 12 hours before sun exposure secondary to photosensitivity. ☀️

Let's talk L A U N D R Y. 🧺

I can recall a time when I used to scour the Target laundry aisle for the strongest, smelliest detergents. Nothing like the smell of clean laundry, AM I RIGHT?!

WRONG. The problem with most laundry soaps is that the ingredients inside are ANYTHING BUT CLEAN. Most commercial names (even ones designed specifically for babies...whattt??!) contain a sort of "loose" ingredient we know as "fragrance". Many products list this synthetic “fragrance” on the label, but very few name the specifics. This lack of disclosure prevents consumers from knowing the full list of ingredients in their products. Synthetic fragrance chemicals have been linked to serious health problems. And we're basically inhaling the fumes on our clothing and bedding all day and night! I encourage you to check your laundry brand on an app like or the EGW and see just how "clean" it really is. •

⧊ DITCH + SWITCH: doTERRA's OnGuard Laundry Detergent uses the purifying properties of the OnGuard blend to clean and disinfect clothes while providing natural fragrance only from therapeutic grade essential oils. It's highly concentrated and safe for high efficiency machines too! •

⧊ OIL UP: Here's a little secret for some extra clean lines -- Eucalyptus! Did you know that dust mites hate eucalyptus? Add a few drops in with your detergent before washing! •

⧊ SMELL GOOD: Forget to switch the wash to the dryer in time? Add a few drops of purify to the detergent, run the load again, and voila -- no wet dog smell! •

⧊ HAVE A BALL: Don’t even get me started on how “dirty” dryer sheets can be (think hormone disruption, etc etc). Grab yourself a set of wool dryer balls and have a ball! I love adding lemongrass or spearmint for some added aroma! •

Let’s talk B R A I N health. || 🧠

This subject LIGHTS. ME. UP! 💡

For those of you that are new here, my background is in speech pathology. I worked for over 8 years of my career as a medical-based with a speciality in stroke, brain injury, neurodegenerative diseases, + cognitive rehab. The brain and all it’s intricacies are just so fascinating to me.

Did you know that certain doTERRA essential oils can influence this vital organ by passing from the blood into the brain?! The blood brain barrier is the most secure tissue barrier in all the body - it’s highly selective in an effort to protect the fragile tissues of the central nervous system. This barrier only allows passage of certain compounds that are crucial to brain function (glucose, some amino acids, etc.).

But how amazing is this — novel research has demonstrated that certain sesquiterpene constituents found in essential oils can directly cross the blood brain barrier because of their small molecular size! Anecdotal evidence also suggests that other essential oil compounds, like monoterpenes (structurally even smaller than sesquiterpenes), can also pe*****te the blood brain barrier!

A few of my favorite ways to support the brain are as follows: (continued in comments) •

• Keep it active! As a forever student, I love using oils such as Sandalwood, Vetiver, and In-tune to help with focus during brain-stimulating activities like meditation, reading, and journalling. •

• Heal the gut! Did you know that a large majority of your feel good hormones reside in the gut? A healthy gut = a healthy mind! I choose to eat a mostly plant-based diet rich in vitamins, nutrients, and essential fatty acids (and supplement with dōTERRA’s Life Long Vitality pack which includes omegas for brain health!). I eliminate inflammatory foods such as gluten, dairy, refined sugar, and processed foods, as they increase inflammation in the brain (+ the infamous brain fog). •

• Get your rest! Sleep plays such a vital role in brain health. I use oils such as Lavender, Serenity, + Cedarwood to ensure a restful nights sleep. •

• Diffuse your oils! Diffusing is a powerful way to influence the brain by way of the limbic system. My favorite brainy oils are my beloved Frankincense, Copaiba, Patchouli, and Rosemary. •

• Fuel your foundation! As I noted above, I choose to supplement with doTERRA’s LLV, but I also add in supplements for gut health (PB Assist + Terrazyme) as well as those for targeted brain support such as Turmeric Dual Chamber capsules + DDR Prime! •

Nothing lights me up inside more than knowing that the choices we are making inside our home are creating a ripple affect for the her future, and the future of the world. •

We whipped up a new batch of aromatherapy play dough (+ some spray blends) courtesy of and think you should too! •

All Natural P L A Y D O U G H: •

⋒ 1 cup flour •
⋒ 1/4 cup salt •
⋒ 2 tsp cream of tartar •
⋒ 1 cup water •
⋒ 1 tbsp vegetable oil •
⋒ natural food coloring (we used beet powder, turmeric powder, and spirulina powder) •
⋒ 5-10 drops of doTERRA essential oils (we used citrus bloom 🌺, citrus bliss 🍊, and island mint 🌿) •

Mix flour, salt, and cream of tartar in a medium bowl. In a separate bowl, add in water, vegetable oil, and food coloring. Add to dry ingredients and mix well (should be more liquidy). Pour into a non-stick pot and cook over medium heat. Stir and after a couple of minutes, it will start to separate from the pan. Remove from heat. When it’s cool enough to touch, start kneading the dough into it’s smooth. Add essential oils, and knead again to desired consistency. Enjoy! •

The central nervous system consists of both the brain and spinal cord. It’s referred to as “central” because it combines information from the entire body and coordinates activity across the whole organism. •

One of my favorite places to apply my oils is up and down the spinal column. The oils are readily absorbed into the skin, and reach the nerves that communicate with the rest of me. I find it just sooooo f a s c i n a t i n g! •

I also find the spine to be a great place to apply for little ones, since they can’t touch the back as easily as the front! •
