Ahh summer. No tomatoes to harvest thanks to the weird weather. They are coming along slowly. Everything else is doing well. I got to jump on the rider and mow, so the place actually looks good.

This is about a USMC Combat Vet and an Army Vet healing each other...
I have a very Green thumb. After I got out of the USMC, I struggled, but I managed to get a Degree in IT and have a 17 year career. At the end of my career, my PTSD symptoms manifested in a way that made me 100% Disabled and declared Unemployable. I sought, and received help through the VA, but it was not enough. I sought out how I could help others and found a local organization where I could put my green thumb to use and help others. It worked for a while, but I am empathetic and could not handle what I was taking on. I was unprepared for that. I started to help by teaching Vets to grow their own cannabis online and one day received some feedback: “...since I got into my plants, my rage is lower, I feel like I am not so angry, and I can’t wait to smoke it!” The last part might seem funny, but for a struggling Vet, sometimes looking forward to something is all they need to live another day. If a Vet can experience that kind of healing from just the 3 months it takes to grow a plant, why not reach for more.
So, with a dream in mind, I sought out a small property where I could have some raised garden beds available for Vets to come and grow whatever they wanted (no cannabis on this property). It is not about what is harvested, but the process of growing that is important. Some Vets need a mission, a task, something to look forward to. Planting a seed is a great way for a Vet to have a period of time with a goal to aim for, creating anticipation and sometimes excitement. What may seem like a simple process ultimately can lead to healing.
My best friend, Brian, has been my ride or die wing-man for a few years. He has an amazing attention to detail and can build just about anything. He will be building the taller raised beds for wheelchair access and seated gardening. He has been instrumental in helping me keep focused, encouraged, and motivated.
