In Loving Memory
Julie A. Weigel
Julie Ann (Gunther) Weigel, 51, passed away on January 7, 2024 in Oberlin, Kansas. Julie was born on September 19, 1972 to Marlin and Linda (Carter) Gunther in Benkelman, Nebraska.
As she grew up in Benkelman, Julie spent time hunting and fishing with her parents and traveling with family. She graduated from Benkelman High School in 1991.
After high school, Julie pursued her goal of becoming a nurse like her mother, receiving her LPN in North Platte, Nebraska and her RN in Colby, Kansas. Julie enjoyed life and adventure, including mountain biking in Colorado. One of her favorite memories was skydiving with her uncle Doug.
Julie married Jim Weigel in 2005. They had three daughters; Maci, Shelbi and Kelsi. Julie’s dream had been to be a mother and her time was happily filled with chauffeuring her girls to dance, sports, and school activities. Holidays were a special time spent with the extended Weigel family in Oakley, hiding Easter eggs, filling Christmas stockings, and celebrating birthdays. She enjoyed scrapbooking these memories for her girls. Family time was also spent at the lake and many BBQ contests. Julie was also a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oberlin.
Julie was a cherished coworker, friend, and caregiver to many as she worked at area hospitals, was a traveling nurse, and in home health care. Most recently, she was employed as Director of Nursing at Norton Correctional Facility. Her engaging smile and caring spirit will be remembered by all those that were blessed to know her.
She leaves behind her three daughters: Maci, Shelbi, and Kelsi; her former husband: Jim Weigel; father-in-law: Robert Weigel; brother-in-law: Michael Weigel; sister-in-laws: Michelle Hellmuth and Julie Brown; uncle: Doug Bowers; aunts: Mary Warren and Alice Van D**e, and her closest friends that were like family, Renee Mader and Renee Jones, as well as many other friends, coworkers, and extended family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Marlin and Linda Gunther, and her mother-in-law, Kathy Weigel.
