AAPSM "Your Foot and Ankle Sports Medicine Specialists" American Academy of Podiatric Sports Medicine (AAPSM)

Objectives

The American Academy of Podiatric Sports Medicine has a series of major objectives:

to provide and stimulate programs for research and education

to promote and encourage publication of research findings and other literature pertaining to podiatric sports medicine

to provide a consultative service for those persons engaged in sports medicine

to increase awareness of the medical pr

ofession, sports population, and general public to the profession of podiatric sports medicine and modalities available to those who participate in sports

to coordinate student chapters and to acquaint the podiatric medical student with the needs and demands placed upon athletes


These measures have proven successful over the years by reaching out to podiatrists, other practitioners, athletes, trainers, physical therapists, students and the public. It has been through all of these collective efforts that the American Academy of Podiatric Sports Medicine has been able to realize its goals and continue to set new ones.

Congratulations to AAPSM Member Rob Frimmel who on April 25 ran 13.1 miles in the Derby mini-Marathon in Louisville, Kentucky. His time was 1:52:43 and he took 5th in his age group. Beat his time by 3 minutes from last year. So as Rob states - you can get better with age!

AAPSM Annual Awards! At the AAPSM Stand-Alone Meeting in Chandler, Arizona

The AAPSM presented its presidential plaques to outgoing presidents Alicia Canzanese, DPM (2024) and Clint Laird, DPM (2025).

Other awards included the AAPSM lifetime achievement award, which was presented to Timothy Dutra, DPM for his long-time dedication to not only the AAPSM but the podiatric profession. Samuel Merritt student Connor Jow along with BUSPM student Maria Torrealba received Robert Barnes Memorial Scholarships.

AAPSM Holds Successful Stand-Alone Meeting in Chandler, Arizona

The American Academy of Podiatric Sports Medicine (AAPSM) held a successful stand-alone conference in Chandler, Arizona. The attendees were treated to a variety of state-of-the-art sports medicine and biomechanics lectures and workshops. The AAPSM presented its presidential plaques to outgoing presidents Alicia Canzanese, DPM (2024) and Clint Laird, DPM (2025).

Other awards included the AAPSM lifetime achievement award, which was presented to Timothy Dutra, DPM for his long-time dedication to not only the AAPSM but the podiatric profession. Day 3 Recap of the 2026 AAPSM Stand alone sports medicine meeting! The 3rd and final day included a morning group run and shoe testing, wonderful educational sessions, great breakout round table session in the sunny courtyard, and finished with workshop!!!
