Feel like you have a UTI and your urine test at your physicians office was negative? It could be your pelvic floor muscles causing symptoms! Muscles near the bladder and urethra can become tense and mimic many of the symptoms of a UTI: pressure, burning, urgency and frequency. If you are struggling, you can get help!

If you are under age 65 and find yourself waking up in the middle of the night to p*e, that’s a problem! For many, poor drinking habits during the day and increased liquid intake in the evening too close to bed is the culprit. For others, waking from sleep to p*e one or more times per night signals pelvic floor dysfunction, stress or another medical issue. If you are wondering why you are waking up so much to urinate talk to your medical provider. You may need to work with a pelvic health PT!

Happy Thursday!

Did you know that postpartum women should seek care from a skilled pelvic health physical therapist as part of their routine care? The stresses that are placed on the body while carrying an infant, then birthing that baby vaginally or through a c-section are enormous. Bladder leakage, urgency, problems with bowel control or constipation, painful scar tissue and pain with s*x are just some of the common issues that can occur.

I don’t say this to scare anyone, but to make you aware that these things happen and can be helped! You don’t have to suffer or just live with it wondering how your life will be as you get older. Some women don’t notice as many concerns, but EVERYONE can still benefit from meeting with a therapist due to the sheer nature of stress placed on the body explained above. Examples of areas that a skilled PT will assess include:
💪🏼a through pelvic floor muscle assessment vaginally and or rectally depending on issues

💪🏼assessment and treatment of episiotomy scars that may be causing tightness or pain

💪🏼checking hips, spine and any nerves that may be painful or irritated causing pain or dysfunction

💪🏼assessment of the abdominal muscles and tissues for strength and c-section scar healing

💪🏼ensuring correct breastfeeding posture

💪🏼teaching correct body mechanics to minimize pain and issues while lifting and moving. And there is still more!

While tackling concerns sooner rather than later is ideal, there is always time to work on them so you can get back to living a healthy and productive life without worrying about your pelvic health! ❤️

Happy Thursday! Did you know that having pelvic organ prolapse does not necessarily require surgery? Many patients are worried about the symptoms they are experiencing and wonder if they will ever get better without a procedure. Physical therapy can help you learn how to control many of the factors that probably led to the prolapse in the first place!

Learning how to breathe, lift and have a bowel movement correctly without straining as well as strengthen the pelvic floor muscles which now need to support the bladder, re**um and uterus even more since the prolapse has occurred. Many women have less symptoms and are happy with their progress, and a simple device called a pessary can increase benefits to many patients.

Even if surgery is required, the patient will be in much better shape for surgery and prevent stress and strain (and potentially reoccurrence of the prolapse) since learning about their pelvic floor.
