Happy Thanksgiving!🧡🍁 I’m so grateful for this sweet gig I get to call my job.

Although postpartum support usually ends after the fourth trimester, I was lucky enough to stick around for a full eleven months for this family! This particular mama worked an on-call life herself so overnight support was a must while this little guy was still waking up at night. Super bittersweet leaving them, so grateful for the time spent with their family 🧡

Gotta love the good ol fashioned hip squeeze! The instant relief of opening up the pelvic floor by pushing your hands together on the hips is truly magical ✨(also super helpful during your period)

I can’t believe this picture was already four months ago! This mama was SUCH a badass. Her strength throughout all of this lengthy labor was inspiring ✨I’m honored to have been a part of this beautiful birth experience.

It’s been a long two years, but I can proudly say that I’m now a Certified Birth Doula!!

Ever since I stumbled upon birth work, I knew I found my life’s calling. It’s the most amazing job in the world, I can’t believe I’ve been so lucky to share in the magic that is birth. After all the seminars, classes, papers, readings, and attending births, I now get to sport the fancy new name: Amity Handle, CD(DONA)!

Thank you , mamas, and to my husband that helped me get here. I couldn’t have done it without you 💜

“But I want to give birth in a hospital.”

One big reason I hear against getting a doula is because they think we only do home births in a tub in a cabin in a meadow overlooking the sunset on the ocean. If that’s what you’re going for- I’m all in! But doulas are also great to have if you’re going for a medicated birth in a hospital with an attending OB.

Together we can set the scene for the ideal birth you’re looking for. Fairy lights, soothing scents, pictures of your dog and maybe some ukulele!

Throughout the night, this wonderful mama had the company of her super supportive partner and gentle music by yours truly. Mom and Dad were an amazing team and I’m grateful to have helped if only a little 🤍

The Fourth Trimester is an awesome learning and bonding experience for any new birthing parent. But it comes with its own challenges and that's okay!

What is a Doula?

(noun) Greek origin. "a woman who serves"

A birth doula accompanies women in labor to help ensure a safe and satisfying birth experience. Doulas draw on their professional training, knowledge and experience to provide emotional support, physical comfort and, as needed, communication with the staff to make sure that you have the information you need to make informed decisions as they arise in labor. Doulas can provide reassurance and perspective to you and your partner, make suggestions for labor progress, and help with relaxation, soothing touch, positioning and other techniques for comfort.
