Gwen Marlatt Vela, LCSW

Gwen Marlatt Vela, LCSW Gwen Marlatt Vela, LCSW provides counseling for children, adults and families. Gwen is certified in EMDR and has training in Sandplay therapy as well.

My practice is focused on working with children, adults and families I work with families across the spectrum of need: in crisis, experiencing difficulties communicating and managing change. I also work with adoptive families to develop familial attachment and lasting, loving connection. I utilize varied therapy modalities tailored to my patient’s needs. I offer Sandplay and EMDR to help access the spirit and body’s natural tendency towards healing. I employ EMDR to help individuals (children and adults) reconcile past trauma and access the brains desire to heal old wounds. I integrate Sandplay as a useful therapeutic tool for children, adults and families, encouraging healing through insight and connection. I believe the relationship you develop with your therapist is one of the most important parts of the therapy process. My priority is to provide a supportive therapeutic environment that is comfortable, safe and conducive to personal growth, for clients of all ages.

The TRF Traumatic Stress Studies Certificate program provides a comprehensive overview of some of the most effective treatment models available.

Yes to this, I have worked with so many kids who never found permanent homes after their parents rights were terminated. Families need to be able to stay together (there are exceptions) and need anti racist support.

Racism can exist within laws that also harm white families, argues law professor and child welfare historian Martin Guggenheim
