Miscarriage and other infant loss support.

About 30 years ago my husband and I wanted to have children. We went through the infertility process and finally we got the news that we were going to have a baby. A whole world got created in that moment; plans for the coming baby and dreams of the future with this little one.

We never got to see this child, I miscarried during the second month. I was devastated, sad that the future plans weren’t going to happen, mad that my body failed me. I felt broken. This scenario was repeated several times as we continued to conceive and continued to lose the baby. Sometimes it was miscarriage, I also had ectopic pregnancies which resulted in surgeries.

The hardest part in many ways was the lack of understanding from others. Often the things people said in the spirit of “cheering” me up were just plain hurtful. Not much has improved in that respect. We need to change the conversation about infant loss and give space for couples to grieve their loss and be supported in the process.

This support program is designed to support couples in expressing their grief and communicating to each other as they move through their grief. Each couple will have an opportunity to create a remembrance of their infant, a ceremony of closure that family and friends can attend and create what’s next for them.
