In the United States, colorectal cancer is now the leading cause of cancer deaths among people younger than 50. All men and women at average risk should start screening for colorectal cancer at age 45. Those with higher risk factors or certain symptoms might need to begin screening earlier. Talk to your doctor about any concerns.

Overall, cancer death rates in people younger than 50 have dropped by 44% since 1990. Only colorectal cancer deaths have increased.
