Most people don’t realize that the first sign of unresolved trauma isn’t a thought —
it’s a body response.
A tightening in your chest.
A sudden heaviness.
Your throat closing.
Your breath disappearing.
That instinct to shut down, withdraw, defend, or become “small.”
The urge to shut down, snap, defend, or disappear.
These reactions can feel automatic… and most people don’t connect them to old experiences.
This is what body memory looks like.
It’s not “overreacting.”
It’s not being dramatic.
It’s your nervous system trying to protect you in the only way it knows how.
When you notice that this is your past showing up, everything begins to shift.
Awareness creates space.
Space creates choice.
Choice opens the door to healing.
You don’t have to force anything.
You don’t have to fix anything.
Just start by noticing the moment your body speaks.
That moment is the beginning of change.
