Dr. Steve Harrison Patients were showing up with much more than a stiff neck. All are on the rise and a virtual pandemic here in the United States and abroad.

One on one consulting and customized treatment for those suffering with hypothyroidism (Hashimoto's), type II diabetes, cardiovascular disease, autoimmune conditions, Parkinson's Disease, Alzheimer's, post-concussion symptoms, movement disorders and more. After practicing for over 26 years, providing chiropractic, acupuncture, physical therapy and nutritional services, Dr. Harrison realized that he needed to dig deeper in order to get his patients well. He began to see chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia, hypothyroid, type II diabetes, cardiovascular disease, autoimmune and neurocognitive disorders (Parkinson's and Alzheimer's). After losing his mother to type II diabetes Dr. Harrison made it his mission to better understand what is driving these conditions and develop a holistic approach to dealing with them. He has focused his studies on functional medicine and neurology, blood chemistry interpretation, nutritional supplementation to assist with balancing metabolic issues, detoxification at the cellular level and fasting procedures. He is board certified in neurology after studying through the prestigious Carrick Institute to obtain his functional neurology degree especially as it relates to the neuroendocrine system. So profoundly true!

If you, a family member or close friend are in need of health coaching for chronic fatigue, thyroid disease, gut problems, insomnia, anxiety / depression, cognitive issues, type II diabetes, cardiovascular problems, call the office and schedule your hour in depth consultation.

Most doctors spend less than 10 to 15 minutes with you, maybe quickly review a basic metabolic panel...which is typically normal, and you're told you are fine and you leave the appointment with no answers...but you don't feel well and you know deep down that something just isn't right. Even worse, maybe they did find something on the panel, hypothyroidism (high TSH), diabetes (high glucose or Hgb A1c), for example, and so they put you on the standard meds (which they are required to do by protocol). They never go the extra step to ask why? Why is the patient fatigued yet their blood work appears normal? Why is their TSH high? Why is the blood sugar elevated? What can we do to fix it if we figure out what is causing it? This is where functional medicine, nutrition and neurology can make a huge difference, but first you have to determine the underlying cause of what's going on.

Our office will have you fill out several questionnaires to give a complete overview of what's going on with your body. These may include a Neurotoxic Questionnaire, Metabolic Assessment Form, Neurotransmitter Assessment Form, Brain Region Localization Form and Peripheral Nerve Localization Form. I will also review any recent blood work you may have available.

Once I have looked over the above we will sit for an hour or so and dig into what is going on. Then together we will decide the next course of action. Do we need more specialized testing such a more detailed / specific blood work, brain neurotransmitter testing, hormone testing, stool testing, maybe a good neurological work up, or do we move right into dietary changes, nutraceutical applications and lifestyle modifications. We won't know until we look at the whole picture. This is why 10-15 minutes with your primary isn't going to cut it most cases.

So again, if you, a loved one, family member or friend need help, don't be discouraged. Maybe you, your health and history just haven't been given the attention they need to really get to the root of the problem. Please call the office and set up your consultation.

Many are unaware that you don't need a referral to go and see a chiropractor. If we are a provider on your plan (Blue Cross / Blue Shield, Cigna, United Health Care), you can just call for an appointment.

Many are also unaware doctors of chiropractic, not only help patients reduce their symptoms, but also focus on discovering the cause of a patient's health condition in order to achieve lasting results for our patients. So in addition to training on how to treat the musculoskeletal system (the spine and all joints of the body), I also have extensive training in internal conditions and neurological conditions. This includes the specialized diagnostic testing needed to manage those conditions and the interpretation of those test, such as x-ray, MRI, CT scans, Ultrasound, CBC, blood chemistry, urinalysis, stool cultures, hormone testing, neurotransmitter testing and more. This allows me to not only help those with back, joint or headache pain, but also help those with issues ranging from chronic fatigue, hypothyroid / Hashimoto's, weight loss issues, anemias, digestive issues, cardiovascular problems, cognitive issues and more.

Knowing what tests to order, and sometimes even more important, which tests not to order, is crucial to your success in treating patients in many cases.

If you have tried everything below, and you are still suffering with fatigue, weight loss resistance, digestive issues, skin conditions or just generally feeling crummy, then I encourage you to call my office and schedule an in depth history and consultation. Many times a thorough history and consultation will uncover other possible causes of why your blood work came back normal, yet you still don't feel well. Many times ordering more personalized testing will uncover autoimmune conditions such as Hashimoto's thyroiditis, for example. Other issues such as anemia, insulin and thyroid hormone resistance, brain neurotransmitter imbalances, toxicity, low grade bacterial or viral infections are many times involved. Lets get to work and find the underlying cause of what's preventing you from living your best life.

So, if you are struggling, call the office and schedule your in depth history and consultation. Lets see what we can do to get a handle on your health and formulate a plan that works for you. We work with people by phone or in person so distance isn't a concern.

If you need help with dietary concerns regarding your type II diabetes contact our office to schedule your in depth consultation.

We regularly consult with people on diet, nutrition and supplementation to help with insulin sensitivity, which affects sensitivity to all hormones at the cellular level. This can improve energy levels, assist with healthy weight loss and improve your focus.

Our consultation involves an in depth history, review of internal organ system function / metabolism, review of brain function, neurotoxin exposure and more. This takes about an hour in the office and can really help shed light on what has been driving your health issues. These consultations can be done in office or remotely.

Unfortunately clients who are dealing with high stress levels for whatever reason, will in many cases suffer the affects of overactive adrenal function, which in turn may throw off other hormones secreted in the hypothalamus, pituitary, thyroid and male and female glands.

Ordering the right blood work is essential for a thorough evaluation and may include a thyroid panel along with a comprehensive metabolic panel.

Depending on what the patient is experiencing, another test we like to use for hormone testing is the DUTCH test. It is a dry urine test that evaluates all male and female hormones and includes the adrenal hormones as well.

If you are under chronic stress and aren't feeling well. Maybe you have chronic fatigue, brain fog, lack of focus, and even weight gain despite diet and exercise, don't give up.

03/20/2023

The long term outcome of a lousy diet coupled with lack of exercise, poor stress management and not getting enough sleep are obviously not good and can manifest in many different ways. Some of the most common conditions associated with the above are hypothyroidism, type II diabetes, cardiovascular disease (high blood pressure and high cholesterol), obesity or weight loss issues and as time goes on cognitive disorders (Dementia, Parkinson's, Alzheimer's).

Following the recommendations listed below, as simple as they may seem, will save lives. The list is simple...the act of doing the list...not always so easy.

In some cases, there can be complicated circumstances...toxicity, gut issues, autoimmune interactions to name a few. In those cases, patients may become frustrated because even when they follow the list strictly, they may struggle to see improvement with symptoms such as fatigue, brain fog, focus and memory issues, weight gain despite dieting and exercise, blood pressure and cholesterol issues, etc...

If you are stuck in this situation of knowing something is wrong, yet you may have even been told your blood work and other lab tests are normal, and that everything looks fine even though you don't feel fine, this is where we can assist you.

We specialize in chronic and difficult cases that require in depth history, proper testing and unique treatment plans to help turn your health around.

Many times when working with people who have chronic health problems I find they have stressors in their life that are seriously impacting their health. This may be a challenge at home, work and until we remove that stress, getting them well can be a challenge, even if we are doing everything correctly.

Don't underestimate counseling or seriously considering removing yourself from stressful situations. It takes a toll on your health.

If you are having a serious health challenge to include autoimmune disease, hypothyroid, type II diabetes, cardiovascular disease, chronic fatigue, post concussion problems and more, we may be able to help.

Typically our first visit take about an hour and a half which includes an in depth consultation and history, as well as an examination. From there we will determine any necessary testing that needs to take place in order to formulate a sound treatment plan.

I always say there is a time and a place for everything and I am very grateful for life saving medications. My concern is that I see many patients come in the door on multiple medications that are elective. What I mean by this, is that they aren't prescribed to save or stabilize the patient, but rather they are prescribed to help manage a patients "lab findings". Instead of looking for the root cause of the lab test result being "out of range", their doctor simply puts them on a medicine to bring the "out of range number" back into the normal range. In many cases, the patient still feels lousy. A great example of this is TSH levels when dealing with hypothyroidism (Hashimoto's). Despite bringing the TSH back into the normal range with the use of Synthroid, Cytomel, Levoxyl etc..., the patient many times still suffers with fatigue, inability to lose weight despite exercise and dieting, hair loss and more. There are reasons for this which is too long of a conversation to go into here.

My frustration is that I get tired of seeing patients put on medications, many of them unnecessary, and some even prescribed to alleviate side effects from other medications prescribed. I feel your pain and I can assure you, there is a better way.

If you feel like you have been chasing your tail, and you would like someone to do a thorough work-up and or review of your bloodwork and really look for the root cause(s) of what is causing your health challenge, then call the office and set up your consultation / examination.

I look forward to helping remove you from as many customer lists as possible.

If you are suffering with serious health issues and have tried multiple different types of treatment or therapies but are still experiencing symptoms, don't give up hope. I have spent the past 30 years studying Chiropractic, Acupuncture, Neurology, Internal Medicine and Nutrition. I have spent in the neighborhood of $250,000 to learn what I bring to the table when we are working on your health problem.

You see, my own mother died from a sugar low related to type II diabetes many years back, which in my opinion, could have been prevented. I have been on a mission ever since to find out why people with health issues typically fall into the medical system and end up on medications that many times don't really solve the problem, but instead prolong the inevitable. Some examples would be that many diabetics never lose weight and still develop diabetic neuropathy. Hypothyroid patients, many times, still have no energy, brain fog and hair loss, despite being on medication and their blood work indicates everything is fine. There are reasons why this occurs that are too long to go into here. Digestive disorders, hypothyroidism (Hashimoto's), type II diabetes, cardiovascular disease, Parkinson's, Alzheimer's, autoimmunity, and various neurological conditions are all on the rise. In fact they are nearly at what we would consider at PANDEMIC levels here in the United States. Fortunately in many cases these conditions can be controlled with proper care. Maybe something has been overlooked in your case and your blood work and prior tests just needs a fresh set of eyes to come up with a sound plan to take your health to a new level. My unique approach entails a completely different strategy. Once you understand that strategy, you will understand the tactics we will ask you to implement in order to turn your health around. As mentioned above I have been at this for 30 years. It seemed, at times, that the more I learned, the more questions that were raised. In the end though, it was a blessing. It helped me to see things more clearly...to look at things more simply. The correct answer is almost always the simplest, not the most complex. We apply this principle by not ordering any testing before taking a thorough history and performing a complete physical and neurological examination. Only then do we order very specific testing targeting which we feel will provide diagnostic confirmation of what we suspect may be going on. This way we keep testing to a minimum and can then move forward to a treatment strategy, or strategies, unique to your current state of health. Many times we are searching to confirm low grade bacterial, fungal or viral infections, and in some cases hormone or neurotransmitter imbalances (which many people are suffering from without even being aware). Testing may include blood work, stool cultures, hormone testing, neurotransmitter testing and more.

So lets recap. The proper strategy comes from a proper history, exam and testing. Only then can we implement the proper tactics to turn your health around and help you get your life back.

If you are looking for help, whether you are local or distant, lets connect and see how we might be able to help you get your health and life back on track.
