Cold outside = perfect excuse for a cozy cup of cocoa ☕❄️

It’s National Hot Chocolate Day, and we’re all about warm treats and warm hearts at Lake Country Pediatrics! While you’re enjoying this winter favorite with your kiddos, here are a few sweet tips:

🍫 Choose warm, not too hot, to protect little mouths
🥛 Try milk for added calcium and protein
🧴 Wipe faces after — chocolate + dry winter skin can cause irritation
🦷 Rinse or brush teeth after sugary drinks

Snuggles, smiles, and a little cocoa make winter days extra special ❤️ Stay warm and stay healthy!

🌿 Wellness Tip of the Week: Protecting Your Baby from RSV 🌿

Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) is the leading cause of bronchiolitis and tends to circulate widely during this season. This week’s focus is all about prevention and reducing the spread to help keep your little one healthy.

Dr. Abigail Patterson shares key ways to protect your baby from RSV:

“Avoiding to***co exposure helps prevent severe disease from any respiratory virus, including RSV. Breastfeeding has been shown to reduce the likelihood of severe respiratory illness. Finally, antibody protection against RSV is available. One option is a vaccine given during the third trimester of pregnancy, which provides babies with protective antibodies. Another option is an antibody treatment that can be given to infants under 8 months old during their first RSV season.”

Reducing the spread:
Stay home when you’re sick and practice good hand hygiene. RSV spreads mainly through close person‑to‑person contact, and it can survive on surfaces for several hours—so regular cleaning makes a difference.

A little prevention goes a long way in keeping your baby breathing easy and feeling their best. 💚

Per DHS-"The case is related to international travel. Due to privacy concerns, no additional personal identifying or health information will be released by DHS. DHS and Waukesha County Health and Human Services are working to identify and notify people who may have been exposed to the measles virus. At this time, no public exposure locations have been identified"

We are confirming a travel-associated case in Waukesha County. While no public exposure locations have been identified, this is a good reminder for everyone to take steps to prevent measles, including making sure you and your family are up to date on your measles-mumps-rubella (MMR) vaccines.

🌟 Nurse Spotlight: Carolyn 🌟

We’re excited to highlight one of our wonderful nurses, Carolyn!

Carolyn graduated from Marquette University with her BSN in May 2023, passed her NCLEX that summer, and joined Lake Country Pediatrics in July. She’s now back at Marquette pursuing her MSN to become a nurse practitioner — and we’re so proud to support her journey.

When she’s not caring for patients or studying, Carolyn loves spending time with her family and friends. She has two older sisters and four young nieces and nephews who keep life fun and full of energy.

We’re grateful to have Carolyn on our team and even more grateful for the care she provides to our families every day. 💙

Meet Jamie Christensen, APNP, our incredible Nurse Practitioner, who sees patients at our Delafield clinic. She is currently taking new patients!

Jamie grew up in Wisconsin and attended the University of Wisconsin–Madison before earning her master’s in nursing at Marquette. Fun fact: her 8th-grade yearbook listed her dream career as a pediatric nurse, and she has loved working with children for as long as she can remember! Jamie worked at Lake Country Pediatrics, S.C. as an RN during her master’s program, then in Illinois and the inner city of Milwaukee, before returning to Lake Country Pediatrics in 2016 as a PNP.

One of her favorite parts of the job is watching babies from home visits grow into children who can carry on conversations. She enjoys the focus on health promotion and prevention during well child visits, and since becoming a parent herself, she loves bringing personal experiences into her role as a PNP.

Jamie and her husband, Doug, have two little girls, Blake and Devyn, and a golden retriever, Bentley. They moved to Lake Country in 2023, right before Devyn was born, and enjoy exploring the area together.
