In Wisconsin, Medicaid is called BadgerCare. Here are some great FAQs for parents wanting more information on whether they qualify, how to apply, and what benefits are available.

Keeping your child's regular appointments helps you ask questions of your pediatrician and provide all the best for your child's growth and development.

And well visits aren't just for babies! Your physician wants to ensure your teens are up to date with mental health screening, vaccinations, sports physicals, and so much more. Don't forget to visit your pediatrician each year.

Medicaid and the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP) provide low-cost or free health insurance for children and families. Find out if these programs are right for your family and how to apply.

And we know those "outside" behaviors are formed very, very early. We thank our partners at the Wisconsin Alliance for Infant Mental Health for their tireless work to give babies and children up to age 5 the very best chance to grow into socially and emotionally healthy adults!

What is infant mental health? The ability to:

* Experience, regulate and express emotions
* Form close and secure interpersonal relationships
* Explore their environment and learn

Doing this early prepares children for success in school, the workforce, relationships, and communities. Bravo!

Children’s behavior is often shaped by feelings and experiences we may not be able to see.

Congratulations to Dr. Dipesh Navsaria, past WIAAP president and longtime volunteer, for this distinctive honor! It is well-deserved and we appreciate all the unique talents you bring to enrich the lives of children and families in the state of Wisconsin.

We’re thrilled to celebrate Dr. Dipesh Navsaria, clinical professor of Human Development & Family Studies and the outreach faculty fellow for the UW Child Development Lab, who is the recipient of the 2025 Susan S. Aronson Early Education and Child Care Advocacy Award from the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP)! The award is AAP's national honor reserved for leaders who have made extraordinary, lasting contributions to the health and safety of young children.

What sets Navsaria apart is not just his leadership, but also his humility. He “walks his talk,” uplifting colleagues, creating opportunities for emerging pediatricians and advocating with clarity, compassion and heart. His work has strengthened early childhood systems, improved collaboration across health and education and ensured children’s well-being remains at the center of every conversation.

9 out of 10 people exposed to measles will catch it if they are unvaccinated, have not had the disease before or have a problem with their immune system.

People with measles - a preventable disease - are contagious before they know they are sick. An infected person can spread measles easily to others 4 days before the rash appears, and they are still contagious 4 days after the rash appears.

If your child or other family members aren't fully vaccinated, please make an appointment today!

Measles is caused by a virus that can spread easily through the air when an infected person sneezes or coughs and someone nearby inhales the infected droplets. It can also be transmitted by direct contact with fluids from the nose or mouth of an infected person. This article is available in several....

🚨 Youth mental health and substance use are deeply connected—yet often overlooked.

The CDC's new Free Mind campaign helps parents and teens understand this link and start open, supportive conversations at home.

Why it matters:
⚠️ Nearly 40% of teens say sadness keeps them from daily life.
⚠️ 75% of youth overdose deaths involve fentanyl.

Awareness is the first step—connection and support make the difference. 💙

Join the University of Wisconsin-Madison Division of Extension and be a part of the Great Apple Crunch this year!

The Great Apple Crunch is an annual October event that promotes local food purchasing and encourages healthy eating during National Farm to School Month. For this simple event, schools, organizations, and households across Wisconsin and throughout the Midwest region commit to crunch into local apples in October. Last year, nearly two million participants crunched into locally grown apples across the Midwest region. The Great Apple Crunch is celebrated across Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Iowa, and Ohio.

One of the Crunch’s main goals is to celebrate seasonal foods and to generate excitement around local foods and agriculture. The event highlights farm-to-school and farm-to-institution sales, increases appetites for regionally and locally grown produce, and supports Wisconsin apple growers. The Crunch encourages Wisconsin schools and other institutions to increase local options in cafeterias, keeping local dollars in the community and benefiting local apple producers.

Extension provides schools, institutions, and producers with marketing resources, recipes, activities, education, and solutions to boost local food systems. Extension efforts are part of national and regional efforts to connect farms to schools and institutions.
