“The doctor said, ‘We could monitor you, but there’s nothing else that we can do,’” Courtney recalls. “And my husband didn’t like that answer. So, we kept going.”

Courtney, a Manitowoc native, visited three oncologists in two states before she learned she was eligible to participate in a clinical trial for her high-risk smoldering multiple myeloma...and it was available less than an hour from home at the HSHS Wisconsin Clinical Research Institute in Green Bay.

According to According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, each year, nearly 1,000 bicyclists die on our nation’s roads in crashes involving a motor vehicle. And, there are also an estimated 120,000 emergency department visits of bicyclists treated for non-fatal crash-related injuries annually.

When Lee heard the words stage 4 lymphoma, his mind went straight to his family and his future.

But instead of letting fear take over, he focused on what he could control: staying positive, trusting his care team and taking things one step at a time.

“Just because you have cancer doesn’t mean you’re defeated,” Lee says.

His journey is a reminder that perspective, support and expert care matter — especially when the path forward feels overwhelming.
