Robert’s Recovery Journey at Oconto

When Robert was admitted to Oconto, he required maximum assistance for bed mobility and transfers using a rolling walker, was unable to ambulate, and needed moderate assistance with daily living tasks.

After just 10 days of therapy, Robert made incredible strides achieving 90% of his goals. At discharge, he was performing bed mobility and transfers with contact guard assist, could walk 200+ feet with a rolling walker, navigate 6 steps, and needed only minimal to contact guard assist for self-care.

Robert shared, “The exercises during therapy were challenging and doing stairs required concentration. I was scared at first, but with practice I was doing good. I am glad to be doing well enough to go back home!”

We’re so proud of Robert’s progress and wish him all the best as he returns home with his spouse!

Elizabeth’s Success at Oconto

When Elizabeth Whittenton arrived at Oconto, she required moderate assistance for bed mobility, contact guard assist for transfers, set-up assist for meals and hygiene, and moderate assistance for lower body dressing and bathing.

After 30 days of dedicated therapy, Elizabeth achieved 100% of her goals and is now fully independent with all mobility and self-care tasks.

Elizabeth shared, “Therapy was slow at first, and then it started going well and I was able to complete functional stuff. There are good people working at this nursing home, a lot of very kind people.”

Congratulations, Elizabeth, on your hard work and incredible progress!

Simple Ways to Beat the Heat!

Summer fun is great, but rising temps can be risky. Keep yourself cool and safe with these easy tips:

• Drink more water than you think you need. The CDC recommends drinking 1 cup (8 ounces) every 15–20 minutes when being active in the heat.
• Find or make a cool spot to relax. Shady trees or umbrellas can help.
• Plan outdoor activities for early in the day or later in the evening.
• Use sunblock or sunscreen and reapply regularly. A good baseline is every two hours. This helps prevent UV exposure and reduces the risk of skin cancer later in life.
• Know your risks. Children, those who are pregnant, and adults over 65 are at a greater risk of heat-related illnesses.
• Feeling off? Get help right away. Symptoms of overheating can include muscle cramping, unusually heavy sweating, shortness of breath, dizziness, nausea, and more.

Enjoy the sunshine safely while you're out this weekend!
