💙 As parents, we want to protect our kids—but sometimes the signs aren't obvious.

When a teen is struggling, it's not always easy to tell if it's typical adolescent challenges or something deeper. Here's what matters: su***de is the second leading cause of death for youth ages 10–24, but early recognition can be life-saving.

🚨 Watch for these warning signs:
• Talking, writing, or joking about death or su***de
• Withdrawing from friends, family, or activities they used to love
• Dramatic mood shifts—sudden anger, hopelessness, or unusual calm after distress
• Risky behaviors (reckless driving, substance use, unsafe online activity)
• Giving away belongings or saying "you'd be better off without me"

💬 If you notice these patterns, trust your instincts. Start with a gentle conversation: "I've noticed you don't seem like yourself lately. Want to talk?" Sometimes that simple check-in opens the door they've been waiting for.

🆘 Delaware Parents & Caregivers - Save these numbers:
📞 Youth Crisis Hotline: 1-800-969-HELP (4357)
📱 Call/Text 988 for National Su***de & Crisis Lifeline

Remember: Asking about su***de doesn't plant the idea—it shows your child they're not alone. Your voice, your care, and your quick action can truly save a life. 💙

✨ Meet Shannon Brady, LMSW ✨

For more than ten years, Shannon has walked alongside children, teens, and families through some of life’s most difficult seasons. She brings a calm, caring presence to her work and believes therapy should be a safe, welcoming space where kids and caregivers can be themselves, feel heard, and begin to heal.

Shannon is trained in Functional Family Therapy, an evidence-based approach that strengthens relationships and improves communication. She has worked in schools, courts, foster care, adoption agencies, and alongside other professionals to ensure children receive the support they need.

💛 Areas of Support
• Anxiety, depression, grief, and trauma
• Divorce, adoption, and other family changes
• ADHD and academic struggles
• Anger, aggression, or oppositional behavior
• Self-esteem, bullying, and social challenges
• Gender and sexual identity support
• Parenting skills, family conflict, and more

Shannon often integrates play and nature-based activities to help children feel comfortable and open. She works closely with caregivers to find practical tools that bring relief at home, helping kids feel more confident, understood, and in control of their emotions. 🌿

As parents and caregivers, it’s not always easy to tell the difference between “normal teen struggles” and a deeper cry for help. Su***de is the second leading cause of death for youth ages 10-24, but by noticing changes early, you can step in before a crisis.

Here are some important warning signs to watch for:
🔹 Talking, writing, or joking about death or su***de
🔹 Withdrawing from friends, family, or favorite activities
🔹 Major changes in mood—suddenly angry, hopeless, or unusually calm after a period of distress
🔹 Reckless or risky behavior (driving fast, substance use, unsafe online activity)
🔹 Giving away possessions or saying “you’d be better off without me”
👉 If you notice these patterns, don’t wait. Start a gentle conversation, and reach out for help. A simple check-in—“I’ve noticed you don’t seem like yourself lately. Do you want to talk?”—can open the door.
📞 Delaware Parents & Caregivers:
Call the Youth Crisis Hotline: 1-800-969-HELP (4357)

Call/Text 988 for the National Su***de & Crisis Lifeline

For immediate danger, dial 911

🌱 Remember: asking about su***de does not put the idea in their head—it shows your child they are not alone. Your voice, your care, and your quick action can truly save a life.

What does play therapy really look like? 🎲🎨

When you walk into a play therapy session, it might look like your child is “just playing” with dolls, blocks, sand trays, or art supplies. But underneath the surface, something much deeper is happening.

👉 Expressing feelings: A child who struggles to put words to big emotions might use toys or drawings to “show” what they feel.
👉 Problem-solving in action: Acting out a tricky school or family situation with figurines allows them to practice new solutions in a safe space.
👉 Building confidence & regulation: Whether it’s creating something, mastering a game, or role-playing, play gives kids a way to work through challenges and feel capable.
👉 Strengthening connection: With the therapist’s guidance, play becomes a bridge—helping children feel understood, supported, and less alone.

In other words, play therapy isn’t “just play.” It’s a research-backed process where children learn, heal, and grow—all while engaging in the language that comes most naturally to them: play. 💛

Curious if play therapy might be a fit for your child? We’d love to talk with you and answer your questions.
