Well, this isn’t very reliable? It’s either a typo, or some of y’all might want to come back for a repeat urine dip!

Our beloved Maddy is moving back to Amarillo to be closer to family. It breaks our hearts, and we know how much our patients will miss her sunny personality and unparalleled dedication to providing the very best care. Maddy is a rare find: she is a medical assistant performing far above that designation, and we expect she will become an R.N. in the near future. She also gave us two months notice, something unheard of in the West Texas medical community. We posted her job on Indeed, and we will also need to find a replacement to clean the office, as she recently took that job over. I will post the latter on this page.

Happy Juneteenth! This salutation is combined with an acknowledgement of the suffering and perseverance endured by millions of our fellow Americans: we know the “happy” doesn’t exist in a vacuum.
Now is a great time to learn more about this day and other historical matters preceding and following it. We humbly offer the following resources:

Last fall, we reached out to UTPB offering paid internships for pre-Med students. We brought on three incredible young people and were lucky to gain a fourth student from UT who was taking classes remotely. We unmask for you here (clockwise): Diego, Yarezly, Summer, and Ariah. They have truly improved our practice, bringing intelligence, reliability, and enthusiasm to their roles. While they are continuing with us for the near future, we do plan to rotate in new interns as they move on to their next steps.

Given that clotting is already a concern in pregnant and nursing women, we recommend not choosing the Johnson & Johnson vaccine until we receive more guidance from the FDA and CDC. We still recommend Pfizer and Moderna for nursing mothers. Pregnant women need to discuss the vaccine with us individually.

In a statement on Tuesday, U.S. authorities said they are "reviewing data involving six reported U.S. cases of a rare and severe type of blood clot in individuals after receiving the J&J vaccine."

HEB has all three COVID vaccines available at multiple locations. Both the HEB pharmacy at MCH and the Midland Wadley location have over 100 slots available. We strongly encourage the vaccine, and everyone in our family including our children and parents is vaccinated. Please speak individually to Dr. Fanous or a nurse if you are pregnant or nursing, but otherwise, inoculate with confidence!

First shots of the COVID-19 vaccine are no longer available at Ratliff; the second dose continues to be administered there. First doses now are available at MCH Urgent Care clinics. All residents age 16 and older are eligible to receive the vaccine, and no appointment is necessary. We encourage you to get the vaccine. The more vaccines increase in Texas, we sooner we can see a return to normalcy. https://mchodessa.com/mchs-urgent-care/

Urgent Care specializes in providing convenient, quick and dependable treatment for conditions that require prompt attention, but do not pose immediate serious health threats. Urgent Care treats many problems that can be treated in a primary care physician’s office.

We have learned there is a shortage of baby formula in stores. We have many cans of Enfmil and Simulac given to us by those companies as samples for our patients. If you or someone you know needs formula, we have it available on a first come, first served basis. Please allow us to distribute only one can per baby unless we have extra to spare. You may come get a can at 401 E. 6th Street in Odessa.
