TTUHSC Permian Basin Schools of Nursing and Medicine hosted the Midland Explorers recently. There were sterile glove and sensory stations, as well as stop-the-bleed and CPR demonstrations.

Midland Health offers a Medical Exploring program for students ages 14-18.

“thank you, next (level) !! ” Addison, a nursing student at the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center at the Permian Basin campus in Odessa, was excited to have finished “Level 2” of nursing school this summer! Students in the Traditional BSN program study for four consecutive semesters (often called “Levels”) — including summer.

Happening this week: The TTUHSC Telehealth Roadshow! TTUHSC staff, faculty and students are invited to participate in the Telehealth Roadshow. The Permian Basin Access to Care Projects will take place on the Odessa campus on September 24th, starting at 9:00am.

Earlier this week, 30 TTUHSC medical students (MS-2) came down to Odessa to check out the campus they'll soon be calling home. They toured the facilities and heard from current TTUHSC Permian Basin medical students and faculty.

Recently, TTUHSC Permian Basin School of Nursing students took part in a tabletop simulation called Friday Night in the ER. The exercise serves to show student nurses what it is like to manage in a fast-paced medical environment. The simulation teaches them essential skills, such as managing busy hospital admissions and a large volume of patients, as well as developing leadership skills.

September is Thyroid Cancer Awareness Month, and Texas Tech Physicians in the Permian Basin is at the forefront of efforts to improve awareness, early detection, and treatment across West Texas and the Permian Basin.

Thyroid cancer is one of the fastest-growing cancers in the U.S. and also one of the most treatable, especially when detected early. There are often few symptoms present in its earliest stages, which is why awareness and proactive evaluation are so important. Warning signs may include a lump in the neck, hoarseness, difficulty swallowing, or unexplained changes in voice.

The Texas Tech Physicians Endocrinology and Diabetes Center of Excellence, located inside the MCH Health & Wellness Building, offers screenings using advanced tools that make the process quick and comfortable.

It is a tremendous opportunity to collaborate with scholarly leaders from across the country in shaping one of the field’s most respected journals.

Earlier this week, Texas Tech University Permian Basin School of Nursing students participated in the Nursing Together for Success at All Levels event. The function enables nursing students at various stages of their educational journey to discuss the program and strategies for success. Some participants even walked away with scholarships.

Last week, TTUHSC Permian Basin School of Nursing placed flags at Memorial Park in Odessa. The flag display is a yearly tribute to those who lost their lives on 9/11.
