Raymond V. Perlinger

Raymond Vincent Perlinger, 96, of North Platte, peacefully passed away on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, at Stone Hearth Estates in Gothenburg.

Ray was born on December 28, 1928, in Paxton to Joseph and Theresa P. (Neuberger) Perlinger. Ray grew up in Paxton, where he attended rural school.

In his early twenties, Ray answered the call to serve his country in the US Army during the Korean War. After completing his assignment, Ray returned home to marry the love of his life of nearly 50 years, Ramona J. Chapman, on April 14, 1955. To this union, they were blessed with two daughters and two sons.

Ray spent many years farming. He was no stranger to the hard work that comes with an agricultural career. Ray later worked for the North Platte Public Schools, where he was known for his reliability, soft-spoken words, and his gentle smile.

Ray was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in North Platte. He was currently the longest living member of the Paxton American Legion. Ray's love for history led him to participate in North Platte's Living History group, where he could help bring local history to life with his nearly 100 years of experience.

Ray also loved playing the guitar and shared the musical pleasure with his grandchildren. Ray loved going for rides and enjoying the wonder of watching things grow, from baby calves to corn and flowers. Above all, Ray cherished his family. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who found his greatest joy in time spent with his loved ones.

Raymond is survived by his two daughters, Bernadette Smith and Gwendolyn (Kevin) Stiefel, both of North Platte; two brothers, Jerry (JoAnn) Perlinger of North Platte and Alfred Perlinger of Paxton; a sister-in-law, Ann Perlinger of Paxton; grandchildren, Nick (Jayme) Smith, Brandi (Mark) Lemon, Scott (partner: Micha Whitaker) Fisher, and Greg (Sally) Smith; seven great-grandchildren, Makynzi Smith, Dracen Smith, Rustin Lemon, Ramona Fisher, Christina Smith, Iezea Smith, and Aubree Smith; as well as many cherished nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ramona; infant sons, Raymond Edward and Roger Wayne; son-in-law, Jack L. Fisher; and four brothers - Joseph, Paul "Bud," Don, and Robert "Bob" Perlinger.

Rosary will be recited on Monday, September 22, 2025, at 1:30 p.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Paxton, followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 2:00 p.m., with Father Bryan Ernest as Celebrant. Interment with military honors will follow in the Paxton Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to the Paxton Legion Post, St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Paxton, or to the donor's choice in memory of Ray. Condolences may be shared at prairiehillsfuneralhome.com, where the Mass will be streamed live.

Daniel Edward Knebel

Daniel E. "Dan" Knebel, 88, of Grant, Nebraska, passed away on September 14, 2025, at Imperial Manor in Imperial, Nebraska.

Dan was born on December 28, 1936, and would later bless the lives of Felix and Regina Knebel. He spent much of his life in Perkins County, Nebraska, and on April 16, 1988, he married the love of his life, Emma "Betsy" Elizabeth Maxwell, in Thornton, Colorado. Together, Dan and Betsy made their home on a farm just outside Grant and shared 37 wonderful years of marriage.

Hardworking and humble, Dan dedicated his career to the land and his community. In his younger years, he worked as a farmhand, later joining the Perkins County Department of Roads, where he ran a road grader and mower for many years. Dan took pride in helping keep the county's roads in good shape, often rising before dawn to make sure neighbors could travel safely after a snowfall or storm.

Outside of work, Dan cultivated a number of unique passions that brought him joy. He was an avid collector with a special love for antique tractors and model toys. His collection included numerous Farmall and International Harvester tractors, both life-sized and small-scale, which he would proudly display and tinker with. He also had a soft spot for G.I. Joe action figures and classic vehicles-if it had wheels or an engine and a bit of history, Dan was interested! Many in the community remember seeing him at local farm auctions, always on the lookout for the next treasure to add to his collection.

One of Dan's endearing quirks was his aversion to getting his hands dirty-despite all his mechanical tinkering, he went to great lengths to avoid getting oil and grease on himself. He made sure he always had the right tool for every job and a clean hand to shake afterward. He may have been the only man in Perkins County who could work on an old tractor without getting a drop of grease on his hands.

Dan's family meant the world to him, and he was happiest when surrounded by loved ones. He especially relished being a grandfather and great-grandfather. In fact, his six great-granddaughters affectionately called him "Big Grandpa," and Betsy was lovingly known as "Big Grandma." While they did so because they didn't understand the use of the term "great" when it came to grandparents, the nickname also captures how big a presence Dan and Betsy were in their families' lives. Dan cherished every moment with his family and created memories that will be treasured for years to come.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Felix and Regina Knebel; a son-in-law, Ed Scoles; and brothers-in-law Roger Bochofer, Don Harris, Pete Maxwell, and Bob (Eddie) Maxwell.

Survivors include his devoted wife, Betsy Knebel of Grant; children Michael, Nancy, and Aaron (Heather); stepdaughters Cindy (Don) and Karen; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; his sisters, Rose Marie and Martha Claire; brothers-in-law Jeffrey (Iris) and Toby; and many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

There will be no services.

Bullock-Long Funeral Home of Grant is assisting the family.

Patricia Thiel

Patricia Ann Thiel, 67, of Sterling, Colorado, passed away Tuesday, August 12, 2025, at PAM Health and Rehab Hospital of Greeley.

Patricia was born on September 2, 1957, in Denver, Colorado. At the age of 19, while expecting her daughter, Patricia was struck by a drunk driver, an accident that left her with a lifelong disability. She nonetheless persevered and embraced motherhood with courage, giving birth to her daughter, Lisa, and facing life's challenges with unwavering determination. Due to her disability, Patricia never worked professionally, devoting herself to raising her family and enjoying life's simple pleasures.

Patricia deeply loved music, especially classic rock bands like Guns N' Roses. She found joy in listening to her favorite songs and often shared that passion with friends and family. Patricia also cherished the companionship of her beloved apple-head Chihuahua, Sammy, who rarely left her side.

Despite the challenges she endured, Patricia was known for her strength and resilience. She could be stubborn in the best possible way - channeling her tenacity into resourcefulness and independence. Her personable nature and warm spirit made connecting with others easy, but she was always fearlessly protective of her family.

Patricia was preceded in death by her parents, Dwyne A. Yonker and Martha Wright. She is survived by her daughter, Lisa Hill of Pueblo, Colorado; four grandchildren, Damond Jerome, Leola Hill, Wade Hill, and Kipp Hill; three great-grandchildren; her sister, Jean Allen; her brother, Jim Gore; and many cherished nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

Larry F. Lacy

Larry Franklin Lacy, 77, of Wauneta, Nebraska, passed away on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, at Great Plains Health in North Platte.

Larry was born on August 22, 1947, in Norfolk, Nebraska, to Franklin Lacy and Dorothy (Jensen) Lacy. He attended Ogallala High School.

On July 30, 1967, Larry married Eilene Steinke in Ogallala, just before he entered service in the U.S. Navy. He served aboard the USS Chilton in the Mediterranean throughout his military service.

After returning home from the Navy, Larry pursued a life in agriculture. He farmed in the Hamlet area for many years, raising cattle and growing wheat and corn for the Williams family. A self-taught farmer, he got his start working with the Hahlweg family, later ranching near Brule for the Welches. He took great pride in cultivating the land he loved until his health would no longer allow.

Larry was a jokester with an edgy sense of humor and a quick smile. He was an avid Nebraska Cornhusker football fan and enjoyed the simple pleasures of rural Nebraska life, especially camping and fishing. He and Eilene shared many adventures together, often traveling in their RV, including a recent trip to Estes Park. Larry also adored his dogs - Petey, DJ, and Pepper - who were his constant companions.

Despite facing declining health for the last 24 years, he remained good-humored and determined, never losing his positive outlook or his knack for making others smile. Above all, Larry loved his family deeply. He treasured his role as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, and he found joy in every moment spent with his loved ones.

Betty L. Dittmar

Betty L. Dittmar, 94, entered into eternal life on Friday, August 8, 2025.

Betty was born September 3, 1930 to Alford and Loretta Sowder on a small farm near Chappell, Nebraska. Betty and her younger brother, Harl, grew up participating in all the responsibilities and experiences of farm life. She often recalled warm memories of her childhood, with loving and industrious parents, along with happy moments spent with her grandparents, Virgil and Grace Sowder. One of Betty's lifelong passions was reading. As a child, she looked forward to Saturdays, when her mom would buy her a 5-cent bag of candy. Upon returning home, she would disappear for hours to the hayloft with a book, candy, and her dog, Trixie, reading until her parents called her in for chores and supper.

In the 1930s, Betty attended elementary school in at South 68 in Ovid, followed by high school in Fort Morgan, graduating in 1948. After a year at Colorado State College of Education in Greeley, Betty taught fourth grade for a year at Sedgwick. While teaching in Sedgwick, she became acquainted with a young man, Arthur "Junior" Dittmar, while out for an evening with friends at a roller-skating rink.

Betty and Junior were married October 8, 1950 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Julesburg. Just two months later, Junior was inducted into the Army, and the newlyweds moved to Camp Cooke Army Base near Lompoc, California. While residing there, Betty and Junior welcomed their first child, Debra Kay, in March 1952. The young family returned to Julesburg later that December, after Junior was honorably discharged due to diabetes. Betty and Junior soon welcomed a son, Kim Victor, in February 1954 and later a daughter, Tami Beth, in July 1965.

Making room for their family, Betty and Junior designed and built a home on eighth street, with the help of Junior's brother-in-law, Elmer Klitzke. Betty & Junior incorporated distinctive mid-century modern design features, including a pull-out stove, telephone built into the wall, and a robin's-egg-blue bathtub - all quite stylish in 1962. Most memorably, the house was a warm and welcoming home for daily life, holidays, birthday parties, family dinners, a 'hang out' spot for Debra, Kim, & Tami's friends, Junior's card parties, and Betty's cozy reading spot.

In 1958, Betty was hired as a telephone switchboard operator for Mountain Bell, a now-iconic career role. In the 1970's, Betty would take young Tami to the museum (at that time located in the Julesburg Library basement), where her old switchboard was stored, and show her the complexities of coordinating calls - the plugs, jacks, switches, rings, colors, numbers - each with a specific purpose. Betty demonstrated every detail in a way so realistic, that Tami was positive that switchboard was about to light up with a call. Betty's switchboard is now on display at the Fort Sedgwick Museum in Julesburg.

In 1963, with the transition away from switchboards to dial conversion, Betty continued with Mountain Bell as its Sedgwick County service representative. Betty loved working for the phone company -- she knew every phone number in town by heart. Betty continued as a service representative, until the closing of the local Mountain Bell branch in 1982.

After retiring, Betty's love of history and the community led her to participate in the Fort Sedgwick Historical Society's Documentation Project. Known as "The Big Project," Betty and other local historians compiled a photographic and written history of every building in Sedgwick County, taking more than 5000 photos and gathering over 2000 historical images. For Betty, this 10-year project was an adventure that combined detective work, history, and good fun with her "Big Project" teammates.

As their children graduated and left Julesburg for careers far-and-wide, Betty and Junior began traveling. Visits to Debra (New Mexico), Kim (Fort Collins, Colorado), and Tami (Nebraska, Texas, and Arizona) were always on their schedule. They also explored farther-away places, including Niagara Falls, Branson, and New England. Betty's grandest adventure occurred in 2009, when, at age 79, she attended her granddaughter, Amber's, wedding in Germany, escorted by her son, Kim. Returning home, Betty and Kim must have appeared exhausted at the airline check-in counter; the ticket agent gave them a sympathetic smile, and upgraded them to business class.

After Junior passed away in 2008, Betty continued to live in the home she and Junior built, until health issues prompted her move to the Julesburg assisted living facility in 2017, and ultimately the nursing home in 2022. Although pets weren't allowed, Betty carried her lifelong love of dogs to each of these new residences, surrounding herself, instead, with fluffy, stuffed dogs to keep her company as she enjoyed her next good book. Mysteries were her favorite, and a mystery with a dog character was even better. Eventually, Betty's declining eyesight ended her ability to read books, but she still treasured her furry stuffed companions. It wasn't uncommon for the exceptionally kind nursing home staff to call out over their walkie-talkies, "Everyone look for Betty's 'Mr. Fox' dog!" (or "Snoop Dog," whichever happened to have gone astray that day).

Betty was steadfast in her Christian faith, and was a dedicated congregant of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Julesburg. She had a heart for missions and enjoyed serving through the Lutheran Miriam Circle and the Orphan Grain Train.

Betty is survived by her three children: Debra Kay (Joe) Sena, Kim Victor (Christy) Dittmar, Tami Beth (Amy) Dittmar; four grandchildren: Amber (Peter) Muhlhausser, Jaden Dittmar, Javier Dittmar, and Diego Dittmar; two great-grandchildren: Betty Rose and Benson; as well as many loving, extended family. Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Junior; her parents, Alford and Loretta Sowder; and her brother, Harl.

Betty Dittmar left those she loved with a legacy of deep faith, character, and service. We love you dearly, and we will see you again in God's presence.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 23, 2025 at 10:00 am at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Julesburg; interment will follow at Julesburg Hillside Cemetery, then lunch at the Lutheran Church annex. Prairie Hills Funeral Home is managing arrangements. For those unable to attend in-person, the service will be live-streamed at https://www.youtube.com/>.

Memorial contributions may be made in Betty's honor to the Orphan Grain Train, or the Fort Sedgwick Historical Society.
