Myth vs Fact! 🍂

Fact: Vertigo can affect anyone at any age at anytime in their life. It can be caused by various factors, including head injuries, inner ear infections, migraines, and certain medical conditions. Treatment for vertigo is exactly the same if someone is younger vs older. A PT will take a medical history from the patient and rule out any other causes besides vertigo. If it is true Vertgio there are manual techniques a therapist can do to reverse this condition.

Call any one of our four locations to talk about or be seen for Vertigo today!

Treatments for pediatric pelvic floor therapy include:

Anatomy and education:
The biggest part of pelvic floor therapy is to teach kids how their body works and how to control these functions. This is where we get real creative to get kids to understand what it means when we have to poo or p*e!

Real Time Ultrasound Imaging:
Using an ultrasound machine, therapists can see the relationship between a bladder/bowel and the pelvic floor muscles. This helps to facilitate lengthening to tight muscles as well as isolated strengthening to weak muscles.

Biofeedback EMG:
Using a computer program with fun graphics (like a video game) to help the child learn how to correctly activate and relax their muscles.

Stretching and strengthening exercises:
Focusing on the pelvic floor and surrounding core muscles to improve coordination

Manual therapy techniques:
Decreasing tension from surrounding tissues that directly affect pelvic floor coordination, therapists can assist in skin rolling, colon massages, cupping, tactile feedback, and so much more to enhance their activation of pelvic floor muscles to decrease symptoms.

Behavioral and lifestyle modifications:
Educating the child and family on proper toileting habits, fluid intake, and diet.

(*At any given point in treatment the child, parent/legal guardians are always in charge and can deny or accept a treatment plan)
