Happy National Nurse Practitioner Week to our incredible Nurse Practitioners across North Star Health Alliance! 💙

This year's theme, "NPs: Trusted Voices, Proven Care", honors the essential role NPs play in keeping our communities healthy, close to home.

Trusted Voices speaks to the confidence patients place in our NPs to listen, explain, and guide them through every step of their health journey.

Proven Care recognizes the consistent, evidence-based, and compassionate care they provide every day in our clinics, hospitals, and specialty practices.

To every Nurse Practitioner within North Star Health Alliance, thank you for:

• Building trust with patients and families
• Providing expert diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up
• Expanding access to high-quality local care
• Bringing skill, kindness, and calm to every visit

Join us in celebrating our Nurse Practitioners this week and thanking them for being trusted voices and providing proven care across the North Country. 🩺💙

✨ Happy Perioperative Nurses Week! ✨

This Perioperative Nurses Week, we proudly recognize the extraordinary perioperative nursing team at Claxton-Hepburn Medical Campus. These nurses embody dedication, compassion, and excellence every single day. They always go above and beyond for both their patients and our community.

From the moment a patient walks through the surgical doors, our perioperative nurses are there—providing reassurance, expert care, and a comforting presence. They manage complex cases with skill and precision, balancing the technical demands of surgery with the human touch that defines true nursing. Whether it’s coming in after hours for an emergency procedure, comforting a nervous patient before surgery, or ensuring every instrument is perfectly prepared, their commitment never wavers.

Thank you to our perioperative nurses for being the steady hands, kind voices, and tireless advocates for every patient who depends on you.

Thank you to everyone who joined our Walk with a Doc last Saturday at Abbe Picquet Walking Trail in Ogdensburg.

It was a brisk morning with warm company as our Diabetes Program Specialist Team walked, talked, and shared simple tips for prevention and day-to-day management.

As November is National Diabetes Month, here are a few takeaways we want to keep front and center:

• Small steps matter. A daily walk is powerful.
• Know your numbers, including A1C, blood pressure, and cholesterol.
• Build a balanced plate and stay hydrated.
• Partner with your care team and set goals you can stick with.
• Support helps. Invite a friend or family member to move with you.

Thank you to St. Lawrence County Public Health Department and to our speakers: Michele Catlin, DCCC; Sarah Willard, BSN, RN; and Mary Cole, RN.

At NSHA, we don't just wear pink in October. We also wear purple in recognition of National Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

When we wear purple, we shine a light on how domestic violence impacts lives and we affirm our commitment to resilience, safety, and understanding for all.

Support is available. If you or someone you know needs help, contact the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-800-799-SAFE (7233) or visit thehotline.org for confidential assistance 24/7.

Together, we can build a future rooted in safety, compassion, and hope. 💜

Junior Scrubs Club is underway for second graders at Hammond Central School and Ogdensburg City School District's Madill Elementary School!

Presented by North Star Health Alliance, Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center & Campus, and Fort Drum Regional Health Planning Organization, this three-week program runs Tuesday through Thursday and brings healthcare careers to life. Scrubs Club can fit into the school day or run after school, giving educators flexible options.

What we've been up to:

Yesterday
• Kickoff and scrubs pickup
• Handwashing lab with glow gel and a black light to spot missed areas
• Patient information form practice
• Quick write on "hospital": students wrote what came to mind when they heard "hospital," then shared a few ideas
• Letters to a nurse

Today
• A nurse visited to share what she does
• Hands-on with stethoscopes, blood pressure cuffs, and thermometers
• Students designed their own stethoscope

Up next
• Radiology tomorrow, led by two radiology techs

Proud to partner for the next generation of caregivers. Keeping healthcare local across the North Country.
