We collaborate with a group of health focused businesses for tabletalks each month throughout the summer.

The tabletalks happen every third Thursday and this month's tabletalk is going to be particularly helpful if you want to explore various modalities each of these health centers offer.

Dr. Truax and I won't be there but you'll get to meet practitioners from ReSet Lounge who graciously host the event, Ubuntu Wellness, Advanced Musculoskeletal Medicine Consultants, Inc. and The Heart Center.

All of these businesses share a focus on movement as medicine and long for a community of creativity learning multiple expressions in how we support one another and our clients/patients in their health journeys.

Coming together as a community is a healing experience and this is an excellent opportunity to explore various options for decisions you need to make surrounding your health.

Hope you go and let us know what you think!

We'll be back for the next one which is about Embracing Time: The Art of Longevity.

One of the more common issues we see in our clinic is lower back pain caused by a hypertonic Quadratus Lumborum.

You can be hunched over, hardly able to walk and after treatment, can be walking upright with maybe a wimpering of pain but not the screaming pain you walked in with.

Not only do you experience the debilitating pain, but you may fear that it is something serious. It feels like something serious.

Having it addressed right away eases the fear as well as mitigates compensations that happen the longer your body has to navigate that pain.

In this situation, it's best to see Dr. Truax so he can rule out more serious issues.

🌿 You care for others. Who’s caring for you? 🌿

Join us for a heartfelt, honest conversation with five healthcare practitioners from different disciplines as we explore the often invisible toll of caregiving—and how to support the supporters.

Whether you’re a parent, partner, healthcare worker, or simply someone showing up every day for someone in need, caregiving can leave you depleted in more ways than one. Here are 5 key aspects of this challenge:

🧠 Emotional Burnout – The constant vigilance and worry can weigh heavily on your mental health.

💪 Physical Wear and Tear – Helping with mobility, interrupted sleep, or stress tension adds up fast.

🌐 Social Isolation – Many caregivers slowly drift from their own circles and supports.

💰 Financial Strain – Time off work, medical bills, or added expenses often go unnoticed.

🔍 Loss of Self – When caring becomes your whole identity, it’s easy to forget who you are.

✨ But you matter too. Here are 5 tips to refill your own cup:

👉🏻 Carve out 15 minutes for yourself daily – a short walk, deep breathing, or stillness can help reset your nervous system.

👉🏻 Ask for help without guilt – You don’t have to do it all, and delegation is not weakness.

👉🏻 Reclaim your body – Gentle movement like yoga, massage, or osteopathic care can restore connection to yourself.

👉🏻 Talk to someone – A counselor can offer tools and space for your emotions.

👉🏻 Stay connected to purpose—not just responsibility – Small joys, hobbies, and spiritual care aren’t luxuries—they’re lifelines.

🗣️ Featuring voices from:

❤️ A Musculoskeletal Physician offering insights from osteopathic manipulation and physical strain

❤️ A Massage Therapist speaking to the power of touch and body awareness

❤️ A Mental Health Counselor addressing emotional overwhelm and boundary-setting

❤️ A Yoga Therapist applying the therapeutic benefits of yoga and other movement modalities to support physical, mental, emotional and spiritual wellbeing

🗓 Join the conversation. Let’s create a culture where caretakers are seen, supported, and sustained. 💚

Rob's experience in healthcare systems include the Army, working within the UH system and now a private practice.

There are different challenges in all of these systems.

I've been following a plastic surgeon who has been candid about what she faces within the system.

This conversation will help you understand coding and RVUs and how they drive private equity companies in charge of these systems.

When Rob was Commanding Officer of an Army Family Practice Department, he became well acquainted with the code system and how to assess RVUs.

Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment, for instance, has a certain code and a compensation rate attached to that code.

If you watch this conversation, you'll gain some insight into how manipulating the codes manipulates compensation, moving profits away from those carrying out the procedures to those running the private equity companies, in this case, in plastic surgery for mastectomies.

If we're all informed, we'll know how to best exert our efforts to make these systems that should be serving us - BETTER.

Math is important. Codes based on math are important.

Whether this be in the healthcare compensation handbook or parking.

We are all better off when we know and apply math and codes because we understand the profit motive behind them.

Rob and I met when he was going to A.T. Still University in Kirksville, MO and I was attending Truman State University at the same time.

A.T. Still University made the top ten of medical schools that have the most graduates serving in underserved populations.

Kirksville, MO is where osteopathic medicine started so there's an emphasis on preserving the importance of osteopathic manipulation for DOs.

Rob extended his four years of medical to five in order to do a Fellowship in Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment which created a solid base of palpation skills many physicians do not cultivate.

He now teaches Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment at Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine.

While we are not serving in an underserved location, we are serving people who need necessary accommodations that our building was not providing.

It's been a long road to getting these needs recognized and addressed by those in authority.

We are almost there.

We are getting a new parking lot, thankfully, that recognizes the need for safe and sufficient parking.

We are also getting three handicapped spaces.

We've yet to hear if these spaces will be fully ADA compliant which would require signage that is five feet high with the appropriate symbols.

We don't have control over the signage in our parking lot.

The building owner does.

We hope our building owner does what's right for our patients - make the parking spaces fully ADA compliant.

Our patients deserve to be served well.

U.S. News & World Report recently released its 2025 list of the best medical schools in the U.S. Five of the top 10 schools with the most graduates practicing in underserved areas are DO schools.
