1: Physiology

A) Discs have 3 primary functions:
1: Act as a shock absorber.
2:Act as a spacer for the nerve channel.
3: Allows for motion in the spine.

B) Has a fibrous outer layer that contains a gelatinous core (Nucleus Pulposus) that is mostly water.

C) Discs do not have a blood supply so discs have trouble healing after injury.

D) Movement helps pump the discs and keeps them hydrated and healthy (since they do not have a blood supply).

E) You have a pair of joints called Facet Joints at each level of your spine that should swing freely (like a door hinge)…. So when you are out living your life, your facet joints are moving and pumping your discs.

F) Whether from injury or misalignment, when the disc stops pumping, it become dehydrated and thin, and eventually it will bulge backwards closing down the nerve channel and compressing your nerves. Leading to pain, numbness, weakness, etc.
