Hi there! So happy you found my page! If you’re new here, let me introduce myself, my name is Taylor English and I have been teaching Yoga in Okeechobee since May 2015. I received my 200 hour teacher training from Kula Yoga Shala in Jupiter, Florida. When I first started practicing, I just wanted to lose weight and feel good in my body. I had been in cheerleading and dance since I was 5 years old & I had no idea what Yoga even was. I began taking classes with Joi Dupre at her studio Your Inner Space. It was AMAZING. I had never felt anything like that before.
In April of 2015, she decided to pursue other opportunities in Michigan and Okeechobee no longer had a Yoga Studio in town. A group of students came together and nominated me to host these “meet ups”. Bianca with The Lounge at Sacred Sanctuary offered me her backyard for us to meet in and on May 14th, 2015 we had our first Okeechobee Yoga Group meet up (as pictured above).
We practiced outside for almost two years. Instead of charging for classes, they were offered by donation and collectively we were able to donate over $1,000 dollars to local non-profits in Okeechobee County such as Martha’s House, My Aunt’s Closet, The B.R.A.T. Club, Health Start Coalition, and K9 Resque. Battling the hot Florida sun, summer showers, and mosquitoes just to practice our Yoga. I started searching for indoor facilities but came up short until Russ Brown with Indian River State College (my alma mater) offered me to teach in the classrooms that were open for the semester. I went through my 200 hour training and finished my Bachelor’s degree and continued to teach in Okeechobee. A few months later, Alexis, owner of Studio 13 Dance Academy, asked if I’d be interested in teaching out of her studio. We finally had a place to call home. It was so refreshing to be indoors, have a solid schedule and a place to leave my supplies.
In May of 2019, Alexis decided to move back to Jacksonville and offered for me to take over at the studio. I hesitated at first. Not knowing where this venture would go, having something fall into my lap that I never thought would happen, I had no idea what to do. But I said YES. I took the leap and I am so glad I did. The overwhelming support from my friends, family and community has been so inspiring and gave me the drive to continue on. On June 1st, 2019, Wildwood Yoga & Wellness, LLC was born. Keeping my normal Tuesday & Thursday classes alive, I’ve been able to add additional classes throughout the week to help better accommodate those with different schedules. Classes are now offered at a minimum donation of $8 dollars with membership opportunities available. I’m going to be offering Zumba along with other wellness and fitness related classes. The studio is also available for rent to those who want to host book groups, club meetings, or private lessons. Little by little the studio is forming into my own. I can’t believe this journey has brought me here and I am so excited to continue moving forward as a group. We are and always will be Okeechobee Yoga Group, but we now have a concrete home at Wildwood Yoga & Wellness.
