Today we honor Juneteenth, a celebration of freedom and resistance.
On June 19, 1865, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation, enslaved people in Galveston, Texas were finally informed that they were free. Juneteenth marks that delayed liberation and reminds us that freedom in this country has never been equally granted.
As a harm reduction organization, we believe that liberation includes access to healthcare, housing, safety, and dignity for all. We are committed to dismantling the systems that harm and stigmatize, and to building care that centers justice.
