Babies have extremely delicate skin and produce less melanin, which makes them especially vulnerable to the sun’s harmful UV rays. For infants under six months, sunscreen isn’t recommended, so the best protection is shade, wide-brimmed hats and lightweight, UV-protective clothing.

Keep your little one cool, covered and safe this summer.

Skin cancer is the most common cancer in the United States, and melanoma is the second most common among women ages 15 to 29. In fact, for women under 49, melanoma is more likely to develop than any other cancer except breast or thyroid. One of the biggest contributors is UV exposure from the sun and tanning beds.

Ladies, make it a habit to check your skin and pay attention to any changes. Melanoma often shows up on the legs, so don’t forget sunscreen below the knees. Your skin protects you every day, so protect it right back.

Every baby deserves the best start possible. That begins with informed, compassionate care for both mom and baby from day one.

July is National Cleft and Craniofacial Awareness and Prevention Month. Each year, thousands of babies in the United States are born with cleft lip, cleft palate or other craniofacial conditions. These conditions can affect feeding, breathing, hearing and speech, but with early care and support, many babies go on to thrive.

At Lakeside Women’s Hospital INTEGRIS Health, we stand with the families and individuals impacted. We support early screening, maternal-fetal care and increased awareness to help with prevention when possible.

Early diagnosis. Ongoing care. Lifelong support.

Fireworks are fun but they’re also LOUD. Did you know an exploding firework can hit 150+ decibels, well beyond the safe range for both young children and pregnant women?

This Independence Day, enjoy the show but watch from a distance and consider bringing ear protection for yourself and the little ones. ❤️ Happy Independence Day from all of us at Lakeside Women’s Hospital INTEGRIS Health.

🌞 Summer heat and pregnancy don’t always mix well. Staying hydrated isn’t just about comfort, it supports healthy circulation, fetal development and can help prevent preterm labor.

If you’re pregnant and thirsty, you're already a little dehydrated. Carry a water bottle with you and aim for eight to 12 cups a day (or more if you're spending time outdoors).

Our care team at Lakeside Women’s Hospital INTEGRIS Health is here to keep you and your baby safe all season long.

Every baby deserves sweet dreams and safe nights. Follow these ABCs of safe sleep to protect your little one:

✅ Alone – Always place baby in their own sleep space
✅ Back – Put baby to sleep on their back every time
✅ Crib – Use a safety-approved crib with a firm mattress and fitted sheet — no toys, pillows or blankets

Thanks to safe sleep practices, like the ABCs of safe sleep, sleep related deaths like SIDS are on the decline; however, it is crucial to know how to create a safe sleeping environment.

Postpartum depression and anxiety are the most common complications of childbirth. They can affect any mother, regardless of age, background or experience.

Here are a few signs to look for after giving birth:
🔹 Ongoing sadness or frequent crying
🔹 Feeling overwhelmed, hopeless or emotionally numb
🔹 Racing thoughts or constant worry
🔹 Trouble sleeping even when the baby is asleep
🔹 Difficulty bonding with your baby
🔹 Feeling like you are not a good mother
🔹 Thoughts of self-harm or fear of harming your baby

If any of these sound familiar, help is available.

This summer, we are launching the ROSE Program, a proven support system for maternal mental health.
