I had several questions after my last video about the flexion-distraction table, so hereโs the science behind it ๐
What is it?
The flexion-distraction table is a specialized chiropractic table designed to apply controlled spinal motion and decompression to specific segments of the spine.
What does it do (mechanism of action)?
Research shows flexion-distraction can:
โข Reduce intradiscal pressure, which is key for disc bulges and herniations
โข Decrease nerve root compression, helping with sciatica and radicular pain
โข Improve spinal mobility while minimizing joint stress
โข Promote circulation and reduce inflammatory load in affected tissues
How is it different from a traditional chiropractic table?
Traditional tables rely more on manual thrust force. Flexion-distraction uses low-force, segment-specific motion, allowing for precise treatment while keeping surrounding tissues relaxed. Itโs commonly supported for disc pathology, chronic low back pain, post-injury care, and pregnancy-related spinal stress.
This is one of the ways we individualize careโbecause healing isnโt one-size-fits-all.
