Are we great yet?

Georgia law requires midwives to secure costly physician agreements and bars others from practicing, restricting care as over one-third of counties lack maternity services and maternal deaths remain high. We know midwives, especially Black ones, have long been a lifeline for our communities. We must remove these barriers and invest in this powerful legacy of care and survival.

To kick off Black History Month, we at LER honor Dr. Kimarie Bugg — the first African American IBCLC in the United States.

✨Dr. Bugg is Co-Founder and long-time senior leader of Reaching Our Sisters Everywhere (ROSE), a national nonprofit advancing breastfeeding equity.

✨She also serves as Community Engagement Director for Communities and Hospitals Advancing Maternity Practices (CHAMPS), a program supporting hospitals nationwide to achieve Baby-Friendly designation — an evidence-based framework shown to strengthen facility-based breastfeeding support and reduce racial inequities in care.

Thank you, Dr. Bugg, for your unwavering dedication to ensuring all babies have access to the very best start in life — and for paving the way for current and future Black lactation consultants to fulfill their goal of supporting breastfeeding families!

We recently welcomed our newest addition into the world. We decided early on that we wanted to do a home birth without knowing the gender. That being said, we nicknamed the baby Buford because why not? 🤷🏽‍♀️😂

Pregnancy went smoothly, and birth was hands down FAR better than the hospital. 10/10! HIGHLY recommend! My birth team was PHENOMENAL:
Tony Mink, Vernecia Tipton, Mikayla Sanders, Shiree Johnson and my midwives have been and continue to be AMAZING: ! I would like to LOUDLY thank them all for the amazing support, love, and energy they brought both during labor and postpartum.

On February 28th at 11:17am, (in the comfort of our living room might I add) Baby “Buford” was born to Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (and if you really know me, you know we started from the very first film) 😂❤️ It is without further ado that we would like to introduce you all to……..
