For first responders, they show up on people's worst days, and carry things most of us will never see. When the shift ends, it doesn’t always leave with them.
Throughout Oklahoma, law enforcement are able to connect someone in crisis to a local clinician at a CCBHC to help de-escalate and assess the situation to determine the level of care a person in crisis might need. This is made possible through MyCare iPads that are distributed throughout our state.
Many of these behavioral health clinics have also enabled a "blue button" for law enforcement. On those same iPads, first responders are allowed to connect to a clinician for themselves, completely anonymous and free of judgement,
First responders are trained to be strong and resilient, but that doesn't mean they don't need support. Reaching out should feel just as natural as responding to a call.
Heroes are human too.
