A new study from OMRF's Dr. Bob Axtell and Dr. Gabriel Pardo has identified new clues in the hunt for signs of multiple sclerosis relapse. It's a big step toward home blood testing for relapse, which would be a game-changer for people with MS โ€” including the more than 3,000 who receive treatment for the condition at the OMRF MS Center โคต๏ธ

Discovery could lead to earlier, more accurate diagnoses

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) has named OMRF one of the lead sites for a nationwide Covid-19 vaccine clinical trial!

The study will assess the antibody response to an extra vaccine dose in people living with certain autoimmune diseases who did not respond well to an original Covid-19 vaccine regimen.

The study team will enroll approximately 600 participants at more than a dozen sites nationwide. The study will initially include people with one of five autoimmune diseases: multiple sclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis, pemphigus, systemic sclerosis or systemic lupus erythematosus.

Those who are interested in volunteering for the trial can get more information by calling OMRF at 405-271-7745.

OMRF was chosen because it is one of just 10 designated Autoimmunity Centers of Excellence in the U.S.

With mask restrictions rapidly loosening or disappearing, how will this affect people with compromised immune systems?

Have the vaccines worked as well for them as for the general population? If not, what can they โ€” and we โ€” do to help protect them?

With mask restrictions rapidly loosening or disappearing, how will this affect people with compromised immune systems?

How do you keep medical research rolling in the midst of a pandemic? Scientists at OMRF answered the call and created a weekly Covid-19 testing program for all of our onsite employees.

It's just one part of the equation that has allowed us to continue our research and yet another way we're taking extraordinary precautions for patients in the MS Center of Excellence.
