🎉 Big News at OKCMA 🎉

We are thrilled to announce that Alex Bird has been named Executive Director of OKC Metro Alliance! Over the past six years, Alex has served as our Chief HR & Marketing Officer and most recently as Deputy Executive Director. In these roles, she has been instrumental in strengthening our programs, supporting our staff, and building meaningful partnerships that further our mission to increase sobriety and decrease incarceration.

Alex often speaks about rain as a metaphor for the ripple effect our programs have on the lives of adults in our community. With her exceptional leadership and deep dedication to our mission, we're confident that the rain is only beginning - so please join us in welcoming Alex! We are thrilled to have her leading the OKCMA team!

🐦 Our guys had the amazing opportunity to volunteer with the Bird Team at Oklahoma City Zoo and Botanical Garden , lending a hand, giving back, and spending time in the community. It was a day filled with teamwork, connection, and (of course) some incredible birds!

We’re so grateful to the Zoo for opening their gates and their hearts. Opportunities like this mean the world to our men as they rebuild their lives and find new purpose.

Thank you, OKC Zoo and our Firstep volunteers who take time and pour into our residents.

Recently, we signed the beam for the new Men’s Firstep Learning Kitchen — a space that will carry forward decades of stories, growth, and second chances.

The original chow hall, a pre-WWII building that served thousands of meals a week, was more than just a place to eat. It was where men learned to cook, connect, and care for their families and one another.

This new kitchen will honor that legacy of teaching life skills, creating community, and offering the kind of nourishment that goes far beyond food. It's a space that will impact generations of Oklahomans, and we're proud to have played a part in what comes next.

We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Jerry Worster, a longtime friend and supporter of Firstep. Jerry had a heart for this mission and a true passion for seeing lives changed through recovery. His generosity, encouragement, and unwavering belief in second chances made a lasting impact on our community.

We are so thankful for the many years he stood beside Firstep — cheering on our residents, celebrating milestones, and caring so deeply for the work we do. His legacy will live on in the lives he helped lift up.

Our thoughts are with all who loved him.

View Jerry Lewis Worster's obituary, send flowers, find service dates, and sign the guestbook.

“At the Movies” with Life.Church 🍿🎬

Our Men's Firstep residents showed up strong this summer, volunteering at Life.Church for their annual "At the Movies" series!

Giving back is a powerful part of recovery! These men are building stronger communities while building themselves up. Service. Connection. Purpose. That’s what recovery in action looks like 💪

We’re also incredibly thankful for the volunteers who invest their time and energy into our residents — driving them, encouraging them, and helping them get involved. That kind of support makes all the difference.

Today we signed the beam!
At the Men's Firstep Learning Kitchen, surrounded by longtime friends, new supporters, and partners who believe in the power of second chances, we celebrated a moment of true growth.

We shared a meal.
We shared gratitude.
And we stood together in a space that represents healing, hope, and hard-earned transformation.

As Nicolas, our Men's Firstep Assistant Director, shared, this isn’t just a building. This is where lives are changed. Where men move forward. Where they phase up, graduate, reconnect with family, and begin again.

The Learning Kitchen will nourish bodies, teach life skills, and help create moments that matter. It is a space that will impact generations.

This is a huge step forward, and we are so proud.
But we’re not quite finished.

💛 We still need your help to bring this kitchen fully to life. If you believe in what Firstep stands for — in recovery, in dignity, in second chances — please consider giving today. Every dollar makes a difference.

OKCMA staff and board members had the joy of attending Ladies in the News hosted by Oklahoma Hospitality Club. It was a beautiful event celebrating strong women and supporting two incredible organizations—The CARE Center and The Dragonfly Home—both doing powerful work to protect and uplift people in our city. We’re thankful for OHC, not just for being longtime supporters of OKCMA, but for the way they consistently support the nonprofit community across Oklahoma City.

We’re proud to stand alongside organizations like these. When we come together, we’re stronger.
