Playful Favorites!

Last month, Jennifer Bowen, LPC, Registered Play Therapist™ (she/her) shared her favorite play item.

“My favorite play item used in Play Therapy sessions is my sand tray table and toys. I am able to use it with clients of all ages and in different ways. Some clients use it to create different scenes, including events that have happened, family dynamics, as well as hopes and dreams for the future. Some clients prefer to use it as a zen garden to rake sand or use their hands to have sensory needs met.”

Email us to share your favorite play item and be featured in an upcoming newsletter!

You never know where you might find a gem for your room and this book came from a restaurant in Kansas. If You Plant a Seed, words and illustrations by Kadir Nelson, has colorful illustrations that are clever. The book follows the concept of planting vegetable seeds, watching them grow, and harvesting the abundance.

The seeds are carrots, tomatoes and cabbages but the ideas are also of initiative, follow through, patience, care, perseverance, abundance, kindness, and selfishness; expanding on the saying “You reap what you sow.”

My daughters were fortunate to have a Kindergarten teacher who created community in her classroom on a daily basis by stating "Friends and Neighbors do____" and "Friends and Neighbors don't _____".

This book reminds me of working together to create community with acceptance and "the fruits of kindness." Check it out: https://www.amazon.com/You-Plant-Seed-Kadir-Nelson/dp/0062298895
