When elbow pain, stiffness, or injury gets in the way of your daily life, arthroscopic elbow surgery may be an option. This minimally invasive procedure uses tiny incisions and a small camera to:

🔹 Remove loose bone or cartilage
🔹 Repair torn ligaments or tendons
🔹 Smooth bone spurs causing pain
🔹 Treat arthritis or chronic inflammation

Benefits include less pain after surgery, smaller scars, and a quicker recovery compared to traditional open surgery.

👨‍⚕️ Dr. West at Southwest Orthopaedics specializes in advanced arthroscopic procedures to help patients regain comfort and function.

When a sprain, strain, or injury happens, the first step in recovery is remembering R.I.C.E.:

🛑 Rest – Give the injured area a break
❄️ Ice – Reduce swelling (no heat)
🩹 Compression – Wrap it for support
⬆️ Elevate – Keep it raised to minimize swelling

These simple steps can make a big difference in early healing. If pain or swelling continues, it’s important to get it checked by a specialist.

Shin splints, or medial tibial stress syndrome, cause pain along the inner edge of the shinbone, often after intense activity like running. This condition is triggered by overworked muscles, tendons, and bone tissue due to repetitive motion or sudden increases in exercise intensity. Flat feet and improper footwear can also raise the risk. Common symptoms include pain along the shin, swelling, and tenderness.

Not all arthritis is the same—here’s what sets two of the most common types apart:

🔹 Osteoarthritis (OA)
• Known as “wear-and-tear” arthritis
• Happens when cartilage in the joints breaks down over time
• Often affects hips, knees, hands, and spine
• Symptoms: stiffness, pain, limited movement, and swelling after activity

🔹 Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA)
• An autoimmune disease where the immune system attacks healthy joint tissue
• Often starts in the small joints (hands & feet) and is usually symmetrical (affecting both sides)
• Symptoms: swelling, tenderness, warmth, fatigue, and long-term joint damage if untreated

💡 Key Difference: OA is caused by gradual joint wear, while RA is an immune system condition. Both can cause pain and limit mobility—but treatment approaches are different.

At Southwest Orthopaedics, our team is here to diagnose, manage, and create the right plan so you can keep moving with less pain.
