I would like to ask my friends and family who are Oklahoma residents for a huge favor. Please call Governor Stitt (at least weekly) and ask him to sign HOUSE BILL 2298 into law.

HOUSE BILL 2298 is a path to independent practice bill for Oklahoma’s nurse practitioners. Basically, it says that after 3 years of experience with a collaborative physician, a nurse practitioner can apply to the Oklahoma Nursing Board for the ability to practice independently without an agreement for collaboration with a physician. Currently, the collaborative agreement is for prescriptive oversight (I pay a physician to be able to write prescriptions on my own license.)

This bill DOES not increase our scope of practice. I will continue doing exactly what I have already been doing for the last 11 years.

It simply allows me to do so without paying someone for the ability to write prescriptions.

Last year, the governor vetoed a very similar bill even though it had passed both houses. Word on the street (with at least house member) is we really need to blow up his phone and email asking him to sign this bill. Someone has heard that he plans to veto this bill also. This bill includes his input, so I do not understand how he could veto it in good conscience, but I am not confident that he will sign it.

Please repeatedly call Governor Stitt’s office (at least weekly) and ask him to sign HOUSE BILL 2298 into law

This would would allow JaLyn to practice without paying a physician for the privilege of writing prescriptions. In other words, it eliminates the collaborative agreement currently required by the state of Oklahoma.
