🌷 Meet the Team Monday
Spring Forward Into a New Role

Today we’re highlighting Lisha S., Phase 2 Charge Nurse!

🌱 Then: Postop Phase 2 Nurse (occasionally Preop)
🌼 Now: Phase 2 Charge Nurse
⏱ 19 years at OCOM | 1½ years in her current role

Lisha says her transition into the charge role felt natural. For several years before stepping into the position, she was already helping her manager, Kelly, with day-to-day operations.

One of the biggest changes she’s noticed is seeing the bigger picture from a management perspective.

Along the way, she’s learned an important lesson:
➡️ Healthcare and nursing are always changing — and you have to be able to adapt.

Lisha credits her growth to great manager support and strong teamwork from her coworkers.

She says many people may not realize how much happens behind the scenes in her role — with many moving parts that require patience, collaboration, and coordination across departments.

After 19 years at OCOM, Lisha says she has grown immensely — gaining confidence, strengthening her problem-solving skills, and becoming a reliable resource for staff.

What keeps her motivated each day?
Her coworkers. She describes the team as supportive, positive, and always willing to help one another.

And one of her favorite OCOM traditions?
🎃 Halloween, when the team’s group costumes get more creative every year.

Her advice for someone new to OCOM:
“Rely on and help your teammates. It doesn’t matter your position — jump in and help when needed.”

🌸 When asked what “spring forward” means to her, Lisha said: “Progress.”

Thank you, Lisha, for your leadership and dedication to OCOM!

✨ March Unsung Hero: Michelle B. – OR Scheduling ✨

Michelle B. plays a key role behind the scenes helping OCOM’s operating room run smoothly. For the past three years, she has reviewed, scheduled, and coordinated surgical cases—ensuring patients, physicians, and teams are set up for success every day.

Michelle was surprised when she learned she had been selected as March’s Unsung Hero. She shared that she works with such an incredible team that the kind words could have applied to any of them.

One of the things Michelle takes the most pride in is supporting new team members. She has made it her personal mission to ensure a recent hire has the information, training, and encouragement needed to succeed—remembering firsthand how stressful it can feel to be the new person.

Outside of work, Michelle and her husband Kirk—who many of you know from Registration—are deeply involved in their church community. Together they serve on an outreach street ministry team helping the homeless and also support their church’s praise and worship team.

Michelle believes that having a willingness to learn how different departments work together makes a stronger team and helps create a better experience for patients.

Her dedication, reliability, and heart for service truly represent the spirit of OCOM.

💛 Congratulations Michelle, and thank you for being our March Unsung Hero!

🌷 Meet the Team Monday
Spring Forward Into a New Role

This month, we’re highlighting team members who have grown and stepped into new opportunities at OCOM — and today we’re featuring Chase Ellis, Surgical Services Manager at our North facility.

🌱 Then: Scrub Tech
🌼 Now: North Surgical Services Manager

Chase describes his transition into leadership as “definitely a learning curve — figuring out all the details and everything it takes to keep things running smoothly. I’m still learning.”

One of the biggest lessons he’s gained?
➡️ It’s okay to ask for help.

He credits his growth to learning from experienced leaders around him and being willing to lean into that support.

He’s most proud of helping expand operations to have all three ORs open every day — a huge milestone for the North facility.

When asked what keeps him motivated each day, his answer was simple: his family.

His advice for someone new to OCOM?
“Don’t be afraid to ask questions. The people around you who have been doing this for a long time are a great resource.”

And through it all, he’s learned:
“I can handle more than I gave myself credit for.”

🌸 When asked what “spring forward” means to him, Chase shared: “More time outside.”

Thank you, Chase, for your leadership and dedication to OCOM!

February is Heart Health Month, and it’s a great reminder that saving a life can be as simple as knowing what to do in the moment.

According to the American Heart Association:

• Black Americans experience the highest rates of out-of-hospital cardiac arrest
• Women, Black, Hispanic, and Latino individuals are less likely to receive bystander CPR
• Nearly 90% of out-of-hospital cardiac arrests are fatal
• Immediate CPR can double or even triple survival chances

That’s why the AHA is working to build a “Nation of Lifesavers.”

💡 The good news?
You don’t have to be a clinician to help.

This February, we’re celebrating team members who have built their careers at OCOM and sharing why they love working here. ❤️

This week, we’re spotlighting Marsha from our Admitting team, who is celebrating 5 years at OCOM this year.

Marsha joined OCOM after her previous workplace closed and quickly found something special — a team that felt like family and coworkers who made her love coming to work each day.

When asked what she loves most, her answer says it all:
“Helping people and seeing them smile.”

From greeting patients to making their day a little brighter, Marsha shared that the most meaningful moments are when someone simply says “thank you.” Knowing she made a difference — even a small one — is what keeps her going.

She describes OCOM as accommodating, family-oriented, and friendly, and says the support she receives from her team makes all the difference.

Thank you, Marsha, for five years of positivity, kindness, and care for every patient who walks through our doors. We’re so lucky to have you at OCOM! 💙
