The Governor has proclaimed TODAY to be TEN-4 Day! Please help us spread the word about this important child abuse screening tool for medical professionals by sharing this post!

If you suspect child abuse or neglect, call the Oklahoma Hotline: 800-522-3511 and make a report. If a child discloses abuse to you, recognize that it is important to listen and act in a way to support and protect him or her. Reassure the child that he or she is brave to share this information with you, and that you will do everything you can to help. Do not ask a lot of questions. Leave investigations to trained professionals.

Oklahoma Executive Department

Proclamation

WHEREAS, children under four years of age are particularly vulnerable to non-accidental trauma and may lack the ability to communicate mistreatment, making early identification of abuse crucial to their safety and well-being; and

WHEREAS, recognizing the earliest signs of physical abuse is essential to preventing severe harm and saving lives; and

WHEREAS, bruising is the most common visible indicator of physical child abuse but is frequently overlooked or mistaken for accidental injury; and

WHEREAS, the TEN-4-FACESp bruising clinical decision rule is a proven, evidence-based screening tool that helps healthcare professionals, child welfare workers, and first responders identify bruising patterns highly suggestive of abuse in children under four years of age; and

WHEREAS, the Children’s Advocacy Centers of Oklahoma (CACO)—the state’s accredited chapter representing 21 nationally accredited and 3 developing Child Advocacy Centers—provides statewide leadership in training, technical assistance, and multidisciplinary collaboration to improve Oklahoma’s response to child abuse and support evidence-based practices such as the TEN-4-FACESp rule; and

WHEREAS, the State of Oklahoma is dedicated to advancing education and awareness among mandated reporters and professionals to improve early detection, intervention, and prevention of child abuse;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Kevin Stitt, Governor of the State of Oklahoma, do hereby proclaim October 4, 2025, as TEN-4 Day in Oklahoma, and encourage all Oklahomans to support efforts to recognize, report, and prevent child abuse through the use of proven tools and collaborative action.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Great Seal of the State of Oklahoma to be affixed this 4th of October, 2025.

Kevin Stitt - Governor of the State of Oklahoma

Today is 10-4 Day, Oklahoma! ✨👏

TEN-4-FACESp is a useful acronym to help screen children under 4 years of age with bruising to identify when a bruise is more likely to be caused by abuse than accidental injury. 🩺
