Age-related macular degeneration ( ), a retinal disease that affects the small central area of the retina known as the macula, is the leading cause of vision loss in older Americans.

There are two types of AMD, dry and wet. Dry AMD is the more common type of AMD, which can remain stable or worsen slowly over time. There are 3 stages of dry AMD: early, intermediate and late, also known as Geographic Atrophy.

Learn more today about the two types of AMD by accessing and downloading ASRS's Retina Health Series fact sheets on wet forms of AMD or dry forms of AMD. The fact sheets are written and illustrated by medical experts and are available in English, Spanish and Chinese.

View and download them by visiting www.asrs.org/retinahealthseries.

Vision loss from geographic atrophy (GA), a form of dry , forced Pete to set his camera aside and stop driving and riding a bicycle. When the first GA therapy became available, his retina specialist recommended that he start the treatment. While his vision continues to decline slowly, the treatment has helped Pete maintain independence, allowing him to stay engaged in his community and help others facing vision loss.
