🌟 Community Partner Highlight: Oklahoma Project Woman 🌟
Edmond Women’s Club is proud to highlight one of our grant recipients, Oklahoma Project Woman, a statewide nonprofit dedicated to ensuring that lack of insurance or financial resources never stands in the way of lifesaving breast health care.
Oklahoma Project Woman (OPW) provides mammograms, diagnostic procedures, and surgical services at no charge to uninsured Oklahomans with limited financial means. Through strong collaboration with breast health care institutions across the state, OPW connects patients to critical care they might otherwise be unable to afford—while allowing them choice in their health care providers.
OPW began in 1995 when two American Cancer Society Reach to Recovery volunteers, Sue Ford and Barbara Schwarz, recognized a growing need among women who were seeking mammograms and breast health resources but had no insurance. What started as a local effort in Tulsa has grown into a statewide program serving thousands.
Since 1998, Oklahoma Project Woman has:
• Provided access to care for more than 76,000 uninsured Oklahomans
• Helped diagnose 967 breast cancer patients
• Delivered care at an average medical cost of $230 per client
• Ensured that patients are billed nothing for their services
We are deeply grateful for organizations like Oklahoma Project Woman that remove financial barriers, prioritize early detection, and save lives through compassionate, collaborative care. Their impact continues to change the future of breast health for women across Oklahoma. 💗✨
