Crucible: 1. : a place or situation in which concentrated forces interact to cause or influence change or development. 2. : a vessel of a very refractory material used for melting or refining a substance that requires an intensely high degree of heat.

Are you experiencing a time of intense force or pressure right now? Do you find yourself re-examining your beliefs, patterns, and biases? As we complete the first quarter of the year, I urger you to take time to deconstruct those areas of life where change nay need to occur, where old habits and thought processes may need to be released.

Now is the time for renewal, release, and rebirth into the person who recognizes what you have to offer others in this season.

Hormone disruptors are everyday chemicals that interfere with the body’s endocrine system, altering how hormones signal, regulate metabolism, and support reproductive health.

Bisphenol-A (BPA), found in plastics, canned food linings, and receipts, mimics estrogen and has been linked to obesity, insulin resistance, early puberty, and increased cancer risk. Even BPA-free substitutes can act the same way.

Phthalates, commonly used in fragrances, plastics, and personal care products, suppress testosterone production and are associated with reproductive abnormalities, low s***m count, and ovarian issues.

Certain pesticides like atrazine and organophosphates contaminate food and water and disrupt estrogen and nervous system signaling, with studies linking exposure to infertility, erectile dysfunction, ADHD, and reduced IQ.

Parabens and synthetic musks in cosmetics and skincare products bind to estrogen receptors and interfere with thyroid function, raising concerns for breast cancer risk and impaired brain development.

Heavy metals such as arsenic, lead, and mercury, found in water, food, dental materials, and some cosmetics, disrupt hormone receptors, damage the nervous system, and impair stress and metabolic regulation. Limiting exposure to these substances matters because even low, chronic doses can quietly reshape hormone balance and increase long-term disease risk.

As a health and wellness practitioner, I urge you to check on your family, friends and neighbors as the government shutdown remains in place. Forty-two million people are at risk of losing SNAP benefits, which will directly impact their access to adequate nutrition. If you are able to help bridge the gap, please β€œBuild a longer table.”

October 8 is Health Cares About Domestic Violence Day. Domestic violence is a public health issue, and health and medical providers can both educate all their patients about the health impact of experiencing partner violence and share information about resources for survivors so that everyone has access to support regardless of whether or not they disclose to a provider.

Health care providers, to prepare your practice to support the survivors you care for, visit http://ipvhealth.org for evidence-based interventions and resources from Futures Without Violence.
