On Monday, April 6, the second-floor rotunda of the Oklahoma State Capitol was filled with voices of hope, advocacy and resolve during My Mind Matters Day! We left energized by the stories shared and the meaningful conversations our team had about mental health across the state.

Every day, we support Oklahomans of all ages with care that fits real life, including outpatient care, in-home support and help when things feel overwhelming. Our focus is simple: meet people where they are and make care easier to access.

April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month. 💙

Protecting children and supporting strong, safe families matters every day. In Oklahoma, substantiated child abuse and neglect happens at nearly twice the national average, making prevention and early action critical.

Our Child and Family Services and Family Preservation Services teams show up daily for Oklahoma’s kids, working to keep families safe and strong. Their impact is real, and it changes lives.

You can help, too. If you suspect a child is being abused or neglected, reporting is fast and anonymous. To report suspected abuse, call 1‑800‑522‑3511 or 911 in an emergency. Together, we can make Oklahoma a greater place to grow up.

March is National Nutrition Month! 🥗🥩

Research from the American Psychological Association shows that what we eat affects much more than our physical health. It can influence mood, mental health and overall wellbeing, too. Diets lower in ultra processed foods and higher in fruits, vegetables and key nutrients support brain health, the gut microbiome and a healthier start to life.

Variety Care's Women, Infants and Children (WIC) program, WIC at Variety Care, supports these outcomes by providing free nutritious foods, individualized nutrition education and breastfeeding support for pregnant and postpartum women, infants and children under 5 across Oklahoma. Our team had a great time connecting with students at Oklahoma City Community College's Sober & Strong event!

“NorthCare was proud to participate in the Sober & Strong event at OCCC, sharing information about our addiction recovery and mental health services. The event had a great turnout, with many students stopping by to learn more about wellness, recovery, and mental health support.”

— Kaleigh Watson, Supervisor, Outpatient Services

Sober & Strong celebrates wellness, resilience and the power of a substance‑free lifestyle—and we were grateful to be part of it.

"NorthCare has been a lifesaver as we've transitioned into the foster system. I can't imagine how much different our journey would have been without my Community Resource Specialist from Family KINnections. She rocks and has been such an essential part to this process for us!"

– Family KINnections caregiver

When families get the support they need, kids thrive — and Family KINnections demonstrates this every single day. Through Family KINnections, kinship families never have to face the journey alone. The program helps with important needs like clothing, beds, food and hands‑on guidance so Oklahoma kids in kinship care can stay in stable homes. Here's what members of the Family KINnections team had to say about the program and its impact.

Representatives from the Parent Partner Program were grateful for the opportunity to attend Wednesday’s announcement naming Oklahoma as the first state to join 'A Home for Every Child,' a national initiative focused on increasing safe, stable foster homes and strengthening family support systems. The effort aims to help states achieve a foster‑home‑to‑child ratio greater than 1:1 by expanding licensed foster homes and reducing unnecessary entries into foster care.

We’re excited to see the good this partnership will bring and thankful to witness meaningful work taking shape for children and families across our state!

It’s never too late to make a change. Together, we’re building an Oklahoma where everyone can live without limits. Program Manager Samantha Eads, MS, LPC, recently shared a story of hope from Stella — a NorthCare consumer whose journey shows the power of care that meets people where they are.

Stella began services at NorthCare in 2020 and joined the FACT team in 2023 during a time of significant instability in her life. She was experiencing homelessness, had no steady income or insurance, and struggled to meet her basic needs. She also faced challenges with her mental health, substance use and staying on her medications.

Once she joined FACT, Stella met with the team several times a week. This helped build trust and gave her the support she needed. Through a team-based approach, she received medication management, therapy, wellness services, case management and peer support — all focused on helping her stay safe, stable and connected to her goals.

Stella’s progress has been incredible. With the team’s help, she secured Social Security Disability benefits, SNAP benefits and health insurance. She moved from homelessness into safe, stable housing and now lives independently. She takes her medication regularly, stays active in treatment and attends groups at NorthCare. She also manages her own finances and has reduced high-risk behaviors.

Today, Stella shows strength, insight and hope for her future. She even plans to return to college — something she had started before her symptoms became unmanageable. Stella's story is a reminder that recovery is possible when people receive the right support at the right time.
