Your corneas are pretty amazing! They can heal themselves from the sorts of minor scratches that can happen every so often. But watching TV isn't the cause of your dry eyes. It's usually due to a problem with your tears. If you wake up with scratchy, gritty eyes, it might be a bad case of dry eye, or it could be something called nocturnal lagophthalmos. Nocturnal lagophthalmos is a condition where your eyelids don't close fully while you're asleep, leading to painful dry eyes and increased vulnerability to scratches.
