It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Deanna Unsell, treasured wife of Dr. Robert Unsell. All who knew her mourn alongside the family as we remember a woman known for her warmth, her faith, and the unmistakable joy she brought into every room.

For 30 years, Deanna made her home in Oklahoma, building a beautiful life centered around family, love, and her deep belief in Jesus. She was a devoted wife, a proud mother of four, and a deeply loving grandmother. Anyone who knew her can tell you: her kindness was effortless, her smile was unforgettable, and her ability to make others feel welcomed was a gift.

A celebration of Deanna’s life will be held Wednesday, November 19 at 2:00 PM at the Edmond Seventh-day Adventist Church on Danforth Road. All who knew and loved her are warmly invited to join her family in honoring her life.

Following the service, a meal will be provided for those who would like to stay and visit. And in true Deanna fashion, guests are welcome to wear bright, bold colors in her honor.

Earlier this month, Dr. Robert Unsell officially retired after more than 40 years in medicine. While he’s no longer seeing patients, care continues at his clinic with Dr. Shehan Abeyewardene, who brings the same commitment to excellence that Dr. Unsell's patients have come to expect!

After more than 40 years of dedicated service, Dr. Robert Unsell will officially retire from clinical practice on May 13.

Dr. Unsell’s career has been marked by clinical excellence, innovation, and a deep commitment to patient care. After earning his medical degree from Loma Linda University in 1976, he completed orthopedic surgery training and advanced hand surgery fellowships at both Loma Linda and Yale University.

He began his career as Director of the Replantation Service at Loma Linda, where he helped train the next generation of orthopedic surgeons. In 1997, he brought his expertise and compassion to Oklahoma City, joining Oklahoma Sports Science And Orthopedics and spending nearly three decades helping thousands of Oklahomans restore function, mobility, and quality of life.

Beyond the clinic, Dr. Unsell has made a lasting impact through leadership and research, serving on the TPG Board of Directors since 2007 and playing a key role in advancing surgical innovation nationwide.

We are incredibly grateful for the lives he’s touched and the legacy he leaves behind in the orthopedic community. Please join us in celebrating the remarkable career of Dr. Robert Unsell—and wishing him a joyful and well-earned retirement!
