April is Oral, Head & Neck Cancer Awareness Month. Represented by burgundy and ivory, this month is about more than awareness, it’s about early detection, informed decisions, and compassionate care.

Cancers of the head and neck can impact some of the most important parts of who we are, how we speak, eat, and connect with others. That’s why treatment matters.

At Oklahoma Proton Center, we’re committed to providing advanced proton therapy options designed to precisely target cancer while helping preserve quality of life.

If you or someone you love has been diagnosed, know that you have options—and a team here to walk with you every step of the way.

Happy National Pet Day! 🐾

Today we’re celebrating one of our favorite team members… Toby! 🐶
As one of our therapy dogs here at Oklahoma Proton Center, Toby brings comfort, smiles, and a sense of calm to our patients each time he visits.

There’s something special about the way animals show up for us, and Toby is no exception. He reminds us that even in the middle of difficult moments, there’s always room for a little joy.

We’d love to see your pets too! Share a photo in the comments and tell us their name. 🐾💛

Meet Brieghanne Smith, our People Operations Manager at Oklahoma Proton Center.

Brie plays a key role in supporting both the day-to-day HR functions and the bigger picture of employee experience. From onboarding new team members to strengthening workplace culture, her focus is simple but powerful: making sure employees feel supported, engaged, and aligned so they can give their best to the patients we serve.

What Brie loves most about OPC is the people. She’s quickly noticed that this is a team driven by purpose, where collaboration, compassion, and a shared commitment to patient-centered care guide everything we do. From a patient’s first visit to their graduation, Brie values being part of a team that truly walks alongside each patient every step of the way.

Outside of work, you’ll likely find Brie enjoying the outdoors, spending time with her family, or even helping her husband work on cars. She also has a creative side and enjoys drawing when she gets the chance.

Fun fact: Brie can drive a stick shift 🚗

We’re so grateful to have Brie on our team and for the care she brings not only to our employees, but to the entire culture of Oklahoma Proton Center.

A recent article in the Green Journal followed over 500 prostate cancer patients treated with proton therapy for more than 10 years.

The results held:
✔️ 92% remained free from disease progression
✔️ Very low recurrence rates
✔️ Minimal high-grade side effects

Long-term outcomes like this matter—not just for effectiveness, but for how patients experience treatment.

We were honored to welcome University of Oklahoma women's volleyball team players Elise Hani and Alaleh Tolliver to the Oklahoma Proton Center.

During their visit, they spent time with our team and patients, hearing stories of resilience, strength, and gratitude. What stood out most to them wasn’t just the treatment—it was the people. The connections. The sense of family that fills this place every day.

It means so much to have visitors who take the time to truly see and appreciate what makes this community so special.

Thank you, Elise and Alaleh, for spending your day with us and for helping share a little more of the heart behind what we do. 💛

🌍 Today is World Health Day, a reminder that healthcare is more than treatments and technology. It is about people. It is about being heard.

At Oklahoma Proton Center, we believe one of the most powerful things a patient can do is advocate for themselves.

Asking questions.
Exploring options.
Seeking second opinions.
Trusting your instincts.

Your voice matters in your care journey, and it can make all the difference.

We have seen firsthand how empowered patients make informed decisions that lead to confidence, clarity, and hope. Whether it is learning about proton therapy or simply feeling comfortable speaking up, advocacy is a vital part of healing.

This World Health Day, we encourage every patient and family to stay curious, stay informed, and never hesitate to speak up. You are your greatest advocate. 💛

David sits down with Shannon Miller to talk about something every cancer patient needs to hear, the importance of advocating for yourself.

Shannon shares how critical it is to ask questions, trust your instincts, and stay actively involved in your care. Because no one knows your body better than you do, and your voice matters every step of the way.

These conversations are exactly what The Cancer Project Podcast is all about: real stories, honest insight, and encouragement for anyone walking through cancer.

Take a listen and be reminded: you are your best advocate.

Meet Ashlynn McGuire, one of our Intake Coordinators at the Oklahoma Proton Center.

When you meet Ashlynn, you immediately notice her joy. It’s genuine, contagious, and something our patients feel from the very first conversation.

Ashlynn is often one of the first voices our patients hear. She helps gather medical records, track down imaging, and guide each person through the referral process, making sure nothing gets missed along the way.

One of her favorite parts of the job is the investigative side of it, tracking down records, piecing together details, and finding information that isn’t always easy to locate. She loves the challenge of putting all the pieces together to help move a patient forward.

After years in bedside care, Ashlynn felt called to make a change and found her way here through a connection at her church, a transition she describes as a true blessing.

Outside of work, she enjoys gardening, reading, and a good midday nap.

We’re so grateful for the care and compassion Ashlynn brings to our team every day. 💛

April is Esophageal Cancer Awareness Month, a time to bring attention to a disease that often goes unnoticed until it’s advanced, and to stand with those who are facing it.

Raising awareness matters. Knowing the signs, like difficulty swallowing, persistent heartburn, or unexplained weight loss, can lead to earlier detection and better outcomes.

This month, we honor those impacted, support ongoing research, and remind others that awareness can truly save lives. 💙💜
