VASERSMOOTH ADVANCED LIPOSUCTION AT TERRELL CLINIC

WHAT IS CELLULITE?
Cellulite is an extremely common condition amongst women of all shapes and sizes. It appears as dimpled skin and uneven fat deposits most commonly on the thighs, hips, and buttocks. The cause of cellulite is multifactorial, ranging from genetic origins to hormonal and weight fluctuations. It develops when fat cells protrude through the thin fibrous connective tissue that exists between the skin and the underlying muscles. Some of these “septae” harden over time and contract, creating unsightly dimples and depressions in the skin. With aging, sun damage, and frequent weight changes, loss of skin elasticity reveals more surface irregularities and worsening of cellulite, as well.

WHAT TO EXPECT
Prior to the procedure, a sedative can be given to relax you. Through a few tiny incisions that close without stitches or large scars, local anesthesia is then infused under the skin to totally numb the region. Using the thin, ultrasonic ‘VASERsmooth’ wand designed specifically to be used just under the skin, the VASERsmooth device melts superficial fat, breaks the dimpling fibrous septae and tightens loose skin, resulting in an overall and permanently smoother appearance.*

Until recently, we were not able to permanently correct cellulite. Several totally non-invasive treatments showed modest and temporary results requiring numerous treatments. VASER LIPOSUCTION AT TERRELL CLINIC
Using a technique called LipoSelection®, VASER Lipo targets specific areas of the body using ultrasonic waves to break up and separate fat cells for removal, while leaving vital tissues unharmed. In addition, VASER Lipo-treated fat is typically higher-quality, and ideal for use in fat transfer procedures. VASER Lipo can be used to eliminate substantial areas of fat, but also very strategically treat delicate areas of the body such as the neck and arms.

VASER Lipo is ideal for patients seeking to remove large quantities of fat for more natural curves and definition and tightening and contouring the harder to reach areas of the body.

THE PROCEDURE & HEALING
A special saline solution is injected into the targeted area to numb and shrink the local blood vessels. Small incisions are made so that probes can then be inserted to emit high ultrasound frequencies. During the procedure, the ultrasound energy treats excess, unwanted fat, by loosening the cells from other tissues. The loose fat cells mix with the saline fluid, then removed with a small cannula inserted just beneath the skin.

VASER Lipo is minimally invasive that can be performed in the comfort of our surgical suite while you are wide awake. The procedure may take from one hour to several hours depending on the number of areas being treated. You will be provided with special compression garments to help the skin conform to your new contours. A short period of rest (typically 12 hours) is recommended, followed by two to three weeks where strenuous activities should be avoided.

Results begin to appear immediately after the VASER Lipo procedure and will continue to improve with time as the tissues in the treatment area healed. Bruising should subside after six to eight weeks and results continue to improve as you maintain a healthy lifestyle over time.

SMART LIPOSUCTION AT TERRELL CLINIC
Laser Lipo, often referred to as Smart Lipo Laser Lipolysis, is a high-tech liposuction technique that utilizes lasers for a safer, more precise result. While surgical in nature, it is a less invasive technique than traditional liposuction.

Using a calibrated laser, we are able to break the fat deposits through the top layers of the skin and seal blood vessels, which reduces opportunities for inflammation and leaves the skin feeling and looking smoother and firmer.* The laser emits a powerful beam of light directly targeting the fat cells and liquefying them before they are removed and eliminated. Liquefied fat cells are then suctioned out of the body using a cannula (hollow tube) with a tiny diameter. We use an extremely small cannula to avoid large scars, which makes Smart Lipo an extremely popular technique with our patients.

Typical Smart Liposuction treatment areas include: Chin, Neck, Chest, Arms, Upper Back, Waist/Hips, Lower Back, Stomach, Thighs, Knees, Calves and Ankles.

SURGERY & HEALING
Smart Liposuction can be administered under local anesthesia. No hospitalization is required. The procedure and healing involves minimal pain, and results in less bruising and discomfort post-op compared to traditional liposuction. In addition, Smart Liposuction requires less recovery time, however the healing and follow-up treatment plan is determined by you and Dr. Terrell together.

FAT TRANSFERS
FAT TRANSFER PROCEDURES AT TERRELL CLINIC
The fat transfer procedure, also known as autologous fat grafting or fat injections, uses your own fat (removed from one area of your body) to volumize or contour another part of the body (or donor sites). Commonly treated areas include the face, breasts, and buttocks.

The fat used for this procedure is a natural, soft tissue filler. Using thin cannulas, the fat is gently removed from a predetermined area of the body such as the abdomen, thighs, or knees, processed, and then skillfully transferred to another area, usually the face, buttocks, or breast. Fat grafting can provide a more dramatic impact to the look and appearance of the body/facial shape, while increasing blood circulation of the tissue.

FAT TRANSFERS FOR MORE PERMANENT RESULTS
Fat transfers will provide permanent results.* While some fat cells are lost immediately after the post-op period, the majority of the injected fat cells remain healthy and survive to provide a fuller, natural effect on the treated areas. Dr. Terrell takes this into consideration and strategically fills the area in order to fully optimize the impact of the fat transfer.

SURGERY & HEALING
Fat injections can be performed under local anesthesia. This can alleviate risk of complications, but also allows the patient to turn and shift to accommodate the procedure. Patients see some swelling and after approximately two weeks, the more long-term look will begin to take effect and patients see the beauty of the final result. Generally, patients can return to work anywhere between one day and one week depending on the area in which the procedure was performed and individual healing.

Initially during the healing process, there is some discomfort and swelling. As you heal, your body is at work growing blood vessels into the fat grafts and strengthening the extracellular matrix surrounding the injection sites. During this time, it is important that you take the appropriate steps to healing.

Maintain follow-up appointments
Refrain from rubbing
Soft washing for up to two weeks
Refrain from exercise for two weeks
Refrain from showering for three days
Wear surgical garment on treated areas as advised by Dr. Terrell
Sleep on opposite side of the area of the procedure was performed for two to three weeks post surgery
FAT TRANSFER TO THE FACE
Fat transfers can add volume and contour to virtually all facial areas including the lower eyelids, eyebrow, lips, cheeks or midface, or nasolabial folds (smile lines or laugh lines). The fat is utilized to restore a youthful facial appearance, enhance the lips or to fill in lines and creases that develop as we age.* Patients can also experience a “lifted” appearance and improvements to the the look of the skin.
