👁️ Thyroid Eye Disease (TED): What You Should Know-
Thyroid eye disease is an autoimmune condition often linked to Graves’ disease that affects the tissues behind the eyes. It can change both how your eyes feel and how they look.
Common symptoms:
• Eye bulging or pressure- this is a LATE sign
• Dryness, irritation, or excessive tearing
• Light sensitivity
• Double vision
• Eyelid retraction (wide, “staring” appearance)
What increases your risk: • Smoking (strongest risk factor)
• Uncontrolled thyroid levels
• High thyroid antibodies
What helps: • Keep thyroid levels stable
• Use artificial tears regularly
• Protect eyes from wind and light
• Sleep with your head elevated
🚨 Seek care right away if you notice vision changes, color changes, or worsening pain.
