Martin Bionics

Martin Bionics Restoring comfort, independence, and hope for a better life. We make comfortable sockets accessible for those who otherwise don't have access.

Our Story:
Founder Jay Martin, CP, FAAOP was invited by NASA to help create an Ironman exoskeleton suit for space and military applications. Through working with NASA he discovered and created counter-intuitive new methods of how to make prosthetics more comfortable. He then set out to create the most comfortable sockets on earth… and the Socket-less Socket™ was born. Now thousands of amputees around the world are able to gain quality of life back through more comfortable sockets. From the 30 million amputees in developing nations without access to any prosthetics to the 2 million amputees in the U.S. struggling with uncomfortable rigid sockets, our technology uniquely makes a comfortable socket reachable for all. Our Mission is to replace the antiquated rigid socket status quo and make conforming and comfortable prosthetic sockets reachable to all amputees around the world. 95% of amputees (30 million) in developing nations do not have access to prosthetics due to a lack of practitioners and expensive fabrication equipment needed to make conventional rigid sockets. The few that do typically get a 1970's-era hard socket, which is or will become uncomfortable, limiting mobility. Our modular Socket-less Socket™ uniquely offers the same comfort for those in developing nations as the fortunate who have medical coverage for our state-of-the-art prosthetics locally.

Another successful workout in the books! Pushing the limits in your Socket-less Socket!

Ty's residual limb was amputated through the knee at the age of 14 due to Cancer. He has had 14 ill-fitting sockets through the years and decided it was time for a change two years ago. He has always maintained an active lifestyle, but had a lot of skin breakdown and pain walking, which significantly limited his mobility.

Our socket provides him with a secure fit, allowing him to do much more. He has gained muscle, which never happened in his previous sockets. He now has greater strength and control over his movements. Participating in CrossFit means a lot of sweat, but that is no issue for him because he can easily tighten his ratchet straps down, without missing a rep!

In preparation for The Great Allegheny Passage at the end of September, Mike Clawges is training 4-5 days a week, covering 25-50 miles. He will be riding 154 miles in 4 days. He is truly putting his socket to the test! 🚵

His original socket lacked flexibility, limited his range of motion behind the knee, and created sores. Being told to wear 12 ply socks to help alleviate his issues was not going to cut it. He received his Socket-less Socket in December of 2024 and has been riding ever since. Without a doubt, he knows he would not be able to ride a bike or patricipate in his upcoming race without his Socket-less Socket. Putting miles on your socket is easy when it is that comfortable.

He proudly shared: "This is the best socket i have ever been in. My mobility and bend with the socket is 135 degrees and my good leg is 140 degress, which is great flexibility to bend. My Physical Therapist measured!"

We are honored to support Mike in his upcoming adventure. If you, too, would like to help support his journey, he is currently trying to raise funds for his trip. The link to his GoFundMe is below in the comments! ⬇🌟
